Little Giants pairs hands-on STEM investigation with practical independence in the Old School House on Hillingdon Road. Its three published rooms cover babies, toddlers and preschool children, while two gardens include a separate outdoor space for babies. The nursery has 46 places in total and accepts ages from three months to five years.

Ofsted rated the nursery Good in June 2024, improving from Requires Improvement at its first inspection in August 2023. The visit found happy children, activities linked to their interests, secure relationships and effective safeguarding. The strongest thread is purposeful independence: children served food, poured drinks, prepared for outdoor play and used a self-registration board.

The setting opens Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 6pm for 51 weeks. Families can choose a full-day booking, morning half days or afternoon half days, subject to the nursery's minimum attendance requirement.

Rooms and Ages

The Babies room builds care around home routines, a key person and close family communication. Floor-level movement, treasure baskets, mirrors, water, light, sound and natural objects turn sensory play into early investigation, while cosy spaces provide room for rest, stories and connection. Babies also have their own garden area.

Toddlers get a more active, language-rich day. Stories, songs, role play and small-group moments sit alongside filling, emptying, balancing, mixing, matching and building. Practical routines matter too: children choose activities, serve snacks, wash their hands and prepare for outdoor play, giving independence a real daily purpose.

Preschool broadens into phonological awareness, mark-making, number, shape, measure, art, music, movement and nature. Longer projects ask children to plan, test, record and explain. A building challenge, for example, can involve sketching, selecting materials, counting, measuring and improving a design rather than simply producing a finished model.

Learning and Named Experiences

The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the learning and development children should encounter through communication, physical development, relationships, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts. Here, Little Giants layers its Four C's framework over that foundation: Care supports security, Cognition develops thinking, Continuity connects one experience to the next, and Curiosity keeps questions moving. This gives the curriculum a memorable structure rather than leaving STEM and Montessori as labels.

The STEM strand is practical. Babies explore movement, texture, sound and repetition; toddlers work with ramps, water, patterns and simple mechanisms; preschool children predict, compare, measure, build and revisit longer investigations. Montessori-inspired practice adds low shelves, child-sized furniture, accessible resources, real responsibilities and time to concentrate. Children can choose and return materials, pour drinks or tidy a tray while adults decide when to guide and when to step back.

In June 2024, the visit recorded planning that connected a familiar caterpillar story with planting seeds, observing growth, fruit and healthy eating. A dentist visit was also planned to make oral health concrete. Those examples show how one topic can link language, science, health and the wider world.

Outdoor and Community Life

Two gardens including a dedicated baby garden extend the curriculum beyond the rooms. Children can investigate sand, water, sound and motion, observe weather and seasons, care for growing things and practise larger physical movements. The spaces use open-ended materials, so outdoor play can shift with children's current interests rather than follow a fixed circuit.

Relationships and Communication

Settling begins with the child's routines, comforts, home language, food, sleep and previous separation experiences. Visits are planned with families and adjusted to the child's response, while a key person and predictable routine provide continuity. Extra updates can be shared during the early days, followed by regular communication through the parent system and progress conversations.

In June 2024, the visit found that key persons used family information, favourite songs and familiar resources to help children settle. It also described parent partnership as a strength: families joined activities such as Mother's Day afternoon tea, held termly progress discussions and worked with staff on practical steps including toilet learning.

Inclusion and Wellbeing

Children needing extra help were identified promptly at the inspection, with referrals made with parental consent. Staff had built links with Hillingdon's early-years advisers and SEND support team, then used focused groups and communication strategies to help children take part. The nursery also publishes a SENCO role, individual planning with families and support for referrals or funding applications where appropriate.

Fresh meals are prepared on site. Mealtimes are shared and deliberately practical: children can serve themselves, pour drinks and develop confidence with cutlery. Families with allergies, intolerances, cultural requirements or medical guidance need to discuss those needs before a child starts so the nursery can explain its current menu and controls.

Safeguarding arrangements were effective in June 2024. Leaders were asked to keep monitoring recent planning changes and establish ongoing reflection, an important next step after the curriculum simplification that inspectors had already found beneficial.

Sessions and Attendance

The full-day session runs from 7.30am to 6pm. Morning half days run from 7.30am to 12.30pm, and afternoon half days from 1pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The nursery asks families to select a regular minimum attendance pattern, though it does not attach a number to that rule in its published information.

The nursery opens for 51 weeks and closes for bank holidays and one week at Christmas. A current written quotation is tailored to preferred days, start date and the child's age.

The setting is at The Old School House, 1 Hillingdon Road, Uxbridge, UB10 0AA, near Brunel University London and Hillingdon Hospital. A bus stop is outside, and off-street parking is available at the rear via Turnpike Lane.

Funding and Paid Extras

The nursery offers the universal 15-hour entitlement for eligible three- and four-year-olds and the 30-hour working-parent entitlement for eligible families. It stretches funded hours across its 51-week opening schedule. Tax-Free Childcare can also be used by eligible families.

Its fees and funding information says fees are fully inclusive, with no hidden additional costs. A non-refundable registration charge applies, but current nursery-specific prices belong in a written quotation rather than this review.

• Minimum attendance. The nursery requires a regular minimum pattern but does not give its size on the fees page. Families comparing two or three fixed sessions need the exact minimum before planning work or funded hours around it.
• Planning development. In June 2024, the visit found that simplified planning had helped staff, while asking leaders to monitor its impact and embed continuous reflection. Parents may want to understand how that approach now shapes individual next steps.
• Dietary arrangements. Fresh meals are cooked on site, but safe provision depends on the child's specific allergy, intolerance or medical plan. Families affected need the current menu and controls before accepting a place.

Little Giants is a convincing choice for families who want practical independence to sit alongside playful science and mathematics. The Four C's, hands-on STEM work and Montessori-inspired room design are explained in enough detail to mean something, while the June 2024 findings give weight to relationships, inclusion and parent partnership.

It should suit children who enjoy choosing, building, testing and taking a real part in everyday routines. The mix of full days, morning sessions and afternoon sessions gives families more than one attendance shape, although the minimum regular pattern needs clarifying. Two gardens, on-site cooking and rear parking add useful substance to the daily offer.
