Learning and Named Experiences

The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the statutory curriculum: children build communication, physical, personal and early academic skills through play, guided activity and everyday routines. Staff then planned from what individual children already knew and helped them build knowledge across the curriculum. Mathematical teaching was a strength. Children counted objects and solved practical adding and taking-away problems.

Learning had a hands-on quality. Children experimented with jugs and funnels at a water wall, reached high as they poured, shaped play dough with different tools and used wheeled toys outdoors. These experiences linked curiosity with coordination and persistence. Staff encouraged children to keep trying after setbacks, supporting confidence and self-esteem.

Outdoor and Community Life

The Uxbridge garden is intended for year-round use. Its mud kitchen and bug hotel bring imaginative play and close observation of nature into the outdoor day, while Superstar Sports adds a named physical activity. The garden therefore serves investigation, energetic movement and social play.

In July 2023, children experienced clear, understandable expectations. Staff taught sharing and turn-taking, then helped children cooperate when listening became difficult. That gave children practical support to understand how their actions affected others rather than relying only on rules.

Individual care for babies included sleep routines and sensory food activities shaped around dietary requirements. For children needing additional help with learning, staff worked with external experts and planned opportunities that supported independence. In July 2023, tailored support helped children with special educational needs and/or disabilities make the expected developmental progress.

Parents reported that communication about learning was personalised and helped them continue learning at home. Safeguarding arrangements were judged effective: staff understood relevant risks, reporting routes and action to take if a concern involved an adult, supported by regular training.
