Choosing their own snack, pouring drinks and putting dishes away gave children practical responsibility at Kingswood Community Nursery. These small tasks were a revealing part of daily life during its September 2024 to February 2025 inspection: independence was practised through ordinary routines.
Ofsted judged the nursery Good across that inspection, with effective safeguarding. Based on Alberta Close in Corby, it accepts children aged two to five.
The early years foundation stage sets the framework for learning, development and care: here, the inspection-era examples included conversation, physical play and learning to do everyday tasks independently. Children could choose resources indoors and outside, giving them a say in how they spent their time.
During the September 2024 to February 2025 visits, songs and movement accompanied language learning. Face painting prompted children to describe the animal they wanted to become and gave staff another opportunity to practise taking turns. Books were accessible for children to pick up and explore themselves.
The garden supported different kinds of activity. Across those visits, children searched for insects, rode trikes and used a slide; sharing construction toys also created opportunities to practise waiting. Physical activity and social learning happened together.
Curriculum delivery was less consistent than those examples might imply. In September 2024, some staff could not clearly explain the learning intended by planned activities. By February 2025, staff explained how resources and activities supported individual next steps, but securing consistent practice across the team remained the improvement priority.
At the September 2024 to February 2025 inspection, Ofsted found that children formed close bonds with their key persons, newcomers settled readily, and children with special educational needs and/or disabilities received strong support overall, including work with families and other professionals on transitions.
During those visits, staff helped children understand expectations and manage their behaviour. Sitting alongside children while they waited for toys made guidance immediate and practical. Handwashing after garden exploration and before snacks linked hygiene to familiar routines.
Communication also had a practical shape during the inspection period: staff discussed children's days at collection, while an online learning journal helped parents follow their learning. Supervision, mentoring and training supported staff development.

Kingswood's inspection-era strengths were concrete: everyday independence, accessible indoor and outdoor play, and close relationships with staff. Consistency of curriculum delivery was the qualification.
