Bermuda Park Nursery

At a Glance

Outdoor classrooms and a purpose-built building give Bermuda Park Nursery a clear physical identity. Based on St David's Way at Bermuda Leisure Park in Nuneaton, it combines separate rooms for younger children with outdoor spaces that carry learning beyond the building. Play is the starting point, rather than an addition to the day.

At its April 2022 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good and found safeguarding effective. That judgement belongs to that visit. The same assessment raised two practical concerns for parents: how clearly children's next learning steps were communicated, and whether younger children's sleep arrangements followed their individual needs.

The nursery has capacity for 87 children, with a current age range of 3 to 59 months. Morning, afternoon, nursery-day and full-day bookings give families several different ways to use the setting.

The Nursery Experience

Rooms and Ages

Baby Room, Tweenie Room and Toddler Room provide separate spaces within the nursery. The Baby & Toddler Outdoor Classroom and Tweenie & Pre-School Outdoor Classroom/Garden extend that arrangement outside, making outdoor provision part of the setting's layout rather than simply an occasional outing.

In April 2022, babies practised moving around using furniture low enough to help them pull upright, alongside time lying on their tummies and play with bubbles. Those are concrete examples of learning through movement: reaching, balancing and coordinating hands were part of ordinary play.

Learning and Activities

The EYFS provides the framework for children's learning, development and care, including learning through play and building communication and practical skills. Bermuda Park Nursery's emphasis on play fits within that framework; it is not a separate substitute for it.

In April 2022, stories, songs with actions and questions that invited longer answers gave children opportunities to practise language. Older children also collected their eating equipment, served lunch themselves and managed coats and bags. These small tasks made independence something children could practise during the day, rather than an abstract preparation for school.

Outdoor activity had substance at that visit. Children collaborated on wooden-plank ramps, tried out ideas about what they had built, rode tricycles and negotiated tyres and climbing equipment. That combination brought discussion, physical movement and problem-solving into the same activity. A recent egg-hatching project also let children care for chicks and explore how living things develop. This was an April 2022 example, rather than a recurring programme.

Care and Support

Relationships and Communication

In April 2022, the key-person arrangement connected activity planning with children's interests and individual needs. Staff offered reassurance when children needed it and supported them as they settled into their rooms. For a parent, the useful point is the connection between a familiar adult and the choices made about a child's day.

Communication was less consistent. In April 2022, some parents were unclear about what their child was working towards next and wanted more help continuing learning at home. The improvement requested was therefore specific: explain the next steps in more detail and help parents use that information. A friendly relationship alone did not settle that concern.

Sleep needed similar individual attention at that visit. Younger children were sometimes encouraged to sleep to match parental wishes even when they did not want to, taking them away from learning opportunities. The requested change was to align sleep arrangements with each child's needs.

Inclusion and Wellbeing

At its April 2022 inspection, Ofsted found children with SEND well supported through individual education plans, targeted work and coordination with other professionals. These mechanisms explain what the support involved, rather than relying on a general promise of inclusion.

In April 2022, parents also supplied familiar words from children's home languages, which staff paired with pictures to help communication. Staff training was regular at that time. Together, these examples show how adults adapted interactions and planning to individual children, while keeping the distinction between historical practice and the current offer clear.

Practical Information

Sessions and Attendance

The nursery opens Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 6pm, for 51 weeks each year. It closes for public and bank holidays and for a week between Christmas and New Year. Families needing childcare throughout the working year should account for those breaks.

Morning Session bookings run either from 7.30am to 1pm, including breakfast and lunch, or from 9am to 1pm, including lunch. Afternoon Session bookings start at 1pm and finish at either 5pm or 6pm, with tea included. Nursery Day runs from 9am to 3pm with lunch, while Full Day covers 7.30am to 6pm with breakfast, lunch and tea. Full Time uses the same hours Monday to Friday.

These are materially different choices: an earlier morning includes breakfast, a nursery day finishes before tea, and an afternoon booking can end at either of two times. Extra hours can also be purchased. Nursery enquiries go to bpn@nbleisuretrust.org or 024 76400 501.

Getting There

The address is Bermuda Leisure Park, St David's Way, Nuneaton, CV10 7SD. The purpose-built nursery sits on the Bermuda Park industrial estate, just off the A444.

Funding and Paid Extras

The nursery offers 30 hours free childcare, subject to eligibility, and funded hours can be used flexibly within its booking patterns. This gives families scope to combine funded hours with the session structure that suits their routine; it does not guarantee eligibility or a particular funded booking.

Meals are included in the named sessions as described above, and mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks are provided. Separate meal charges also form part of the charge structure. Parents supply nappies, pull-ups and wipes; an additional charge applies if the nursery supplies a nappy after a child's supply runs out.

A registration charge applies. Four weeks' written notice is required to cancel a place or change booked days or hours, otherwise four weeks' fees are payable. Childcare vouchers and tax-free childcare are accepted, and current prices come in the nursery's written quotation; the fees page explains the booking and charge structure.

Things to Consider

  • Sleep that follows the child. The April 2022 concern involved sleep being guided by parental wishes rather than children's needs. During a visit, ask how staff balance your preferred routine with signs that your child is tired or ready to play.
  • Useful learning updates. In April 2022, some parents wanted clearer next steps and support for learning at home. Ask to see an example of the updates families receive now.
  • Funding and the total bill. Funded hours fit within the nursery's booking patterns, while meals and nappy arrangements affect the charge structure. Ask how meals and consumables will be treated in your proposed funded booking.

The Verdict

Bermuda Park Nursery suits families comparing morning or afternoon care with a nursery day, full day or full-time attendance. Its separate rooms and named outdoor classrooms give the offer a tangible shape, and the April 2022 account contains useful examples of movement, language and growing independence.

The balance is practical: a Good inspection judgement sits alongside specific concerns about sleep and parent communication. Those two aspects deserve close attention when assessing how the nursery will meet your child's needs and keep you involved.
