Reading, rhymes and everyday conversation give Happy Jacks Day Nursery its clearest character. At its March 2025 inspection, Ofsted rated it Good and found that children progressed well in language and early mathematics. The practical examples matter: words accompanied sandcastle play, while counting cropped up in songs and finger games.
In Littleborough, the nursery has capacity for 37 children, with an age range from birth to 59 months. Its strongest inspection examples sit alongside two clear improvement priorities: more consistent learning for younger children and more opportunities to do things independently.
The early years foundation stage is the framework for children's learning, care and development here. In everyday terms, that brings communication, early number skills and physical development into the child's day rather than treating care and learning as separate jobs.
In March 2025, babies heard staff connect words with actions during sandcastle play, and older children sang and acted out Old MacDonald had a Farm. Counting ducks during rhymes and using fingers for addition and subtraction brought number work into familiar activities. Outdoors, staff planned opportunities to practise jumping.
Delivery was less consistent for younger children that March. Some activities did not extend their existing understanding sufficiently. For parents, the useful distinction is between having a learning plan and adapting it successfully to the child taking part.
At the March 2025 inspection, Ofsted judged safeguarding effective and found that SEND support combined close developmental monitoring, collaboration with families and professionals, and effective use of additional funding to help children progress.
Relationships had practical substance in March 2025: children sought comfort from their key person, settling sessions supported the move into nursery, and parent meetings covered development and next steps. Families could borrow books from the library, extending shared reading beyond the nursery day.
Health and independence also featured that March. Children practised toothbrushing with songs and adult demonstrations. At snack time, however, staff sometimes poured drinks or prepared fruit before children could try themselves. Helpful intervention could cut short useful practice.

Happy Jacks suits families who value stories, songs and practical early learning, and whose childcare needs fit its weekday opening window. The March 2025 examples give that character substance. The decision deserves equal attention to younger children's learning and the balance between adult help and growing independence.
