Logs, minibeasts and water jugs give this nursery's learning a concrete character. In September 2025, children investigated what lived beneath a log, made patterns with natural objects and explored quantities while mixing mud. These were opportunities to talk, predict and solve problems through play.
Ofsted rated The Lime Trees at Crossdale Primary School Outstanding on 30 September 2025 and judged safeguarding effective. The setting has 75 places in total. At that visit, its nursery provision catered for children aged two to five before school.
The early years foundation stage combines children's learning, development and care: here, the September 2025 examples show how conversation, physical activity and practical exploration can share the same activity. Children discussed minibeast habitats before helping move a heavy log to test their ideas. Adults encouraged children to share their ideas during the investigation.
Mathematics also had a practical setting in September 2025. Leaves, pine cones and conkers became materials for patterns, while pouring water prompted talk about amounts and containers. This gave abstract ideas something children could handle. Using tweezers to collect minibeasts demanded careful finger movements, building the control useful for everyday tasks and later writing.
The woodland area offered another kind of learning. In September 2025, children responded promptly to a familiar recall instruction. Shared hide-and-seek involved finding hiding places for everyone, giving cooperation a purpose within the game.
At the September 2025 inspection, Ofsted found that personalised planning with families and outside agencies, supported by additional funding for resources, helped children with specific needs make excellent progress. The practical value was support shaped around the child rather than a single solution for everyone.
In September 2025, staff incorporated words from children's home languages and discussed religious celebrations with families. These small adjustments connected nursery life with home. Support for self-care was equally concrete: children had time and encouragement to manage their clothing after using the toilet, allowing them to practise independence.
School transition work formed part of the September 2025 provision too. Staff worked with the school to help children establish relationships with their future teachers and become familiar with the next setting.

Term-time provision also included a before-school club from 7.30am to 9am and an after-school club from 3.30pm to 6pm. During school holidays, the holiday club opened from 7.30am to 6pm. These were separate parts of the provision, with different calendars and hours.
Government-funded childcare formed part of the September 2025 offer.
This setting suits families who value practical outdoor exploration alongside language, independence and preparation for school. Its September 2025 arrangements encompassed the nursery day, term-time before- and after-school clubs, and holiday care. The strongest impression is of everyday activities used thoughtfully: a log prompts investigation, a jug makes mathematics tangible, and getting dressed becomes a chance to practise self-care.
