Little Angels Day Nursery

At a Glance

Books, conversation and contact with the local community give Little Angels Day Nursery in Smethwick its character. At its December 2024 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good overall, with learning extension and consistent behaviour guidance identified as areas for improvement.

The nursery has capacity for 44 children aged 0 to 84 months. Its address is 2 Davison Road, B67 6JL, and its weekday opening window runs from 7.30am to 6pm.

The Nursery Experience

In December 2024, stories provided opportunities for conversation as well as comfort. Children discussed pictures, answered questions and heard staff repeat their speech correctly. Practitioners introduced unfamiliar vocabulary during their conversations, giving children examples of language to use themselves.

The early years foundation stage sets the requirements for children's learning, development and care. Here, the December 2024 activities included sorting minibeasts and recalling earlier learning: play gave children something concrete to discuss and explore. Staff planned with learning intentions, although they sometimes missed opportunities to take an activity further. Staff did not always use opportunities to challenge children further.

Outdoor access was regular in December 2024, with activities exercising both smaller movements and larger muscles. Visits to a local care home and library also extended children's experiences beyond the nursery. Learning about Christmas and other celebrations introduced differences in belief and ways of respecting them.

Care and Support

At the December 2024 inspection, Ofsted judged safeguarding effective and found that adaptations for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, alongside collaboration with parents and health visitors, supported their development.

Relationships mattered in everyday care that December. Staff responded to children's needs, celebrated their achievements and offered cuddles during shared stories. Those interactions gave attention to emotional needs as well as activities.

Older children encountered clear boundaries and stayed engaged in learning. Guidance for younger children was less consistent, leaving some less well supported to recognise feelings and manage behaviour. This is a useful distinction for parents considering care for different ages.

Fresh meals were prepared in December 2024, and staff encouraged drinking during the day. Handwashing practice helped even young children take part in their own care.

Parent questionnaires and feedback forms were in use that December, providing routes for families to share their views. Staff also had access to training for their professional development.

Practical Information

Little Angels opens Monday to Friday, from 7.30am to 6pm, throughout the year except bank holidays. That opening window is a practical consideration for parents arranging work and childcare.

In December 2024, the nursery received early years funding for children aged from nine months to three years. This is a dated participation statement, rather than a promise of a funded place for an individual child.

Things to Consider

  • Extending learning. December 2024 activities sometimes stopped short of the next challenge. Ask how practitioners now build on a child's existing knowledge during play.
  • Younger children's behaviour. Guidance was less consistent for younger children in December 2024. During a visit, discuss how staff help them understand feelings and expectations.
  • Your attendance pattern. The weekday opening window is 7.30am to 6pm. Which booking pattern and funding arrangement would apply to your child's attendance?

The Verdict

Little Angels suits families seeking year-round weekday childcare who value conversation, shared books and experiences beyond the nursery. The December 2024 account offers concrete examples of those experiences, alongside two clear priorities: stretching learning further and making behaviour guidance more consistent for younger children.
