Apple pips, pretend firefighting and books brought into vehicle play give a clear picture of Rosedene Redhill's character: children's interests become the starting point for learning. At its 9 July 2025 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Outstanding, recognising the quality of its education and children's progress.
Based at Redhill Family Hub in Roseworth, the nursery has 70 places in total and accepts children aged 2 to 60 months. Child-led exploration and natural materials shape the current approach, with outdoor learning extending children's opportunities to investigate and create. Private childcare and stretched government-funded hours are both offered.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the framework for children's learning, development and care: play brings together communication, physical activity and exploring the world. At Redhill, children's own interests help shape hands-on experiences, rather than being treated as a distraction from learning.
In July 2025, an interest in firefighters became a shared problem-solving activity. Children worked out which equipment they needed to tackle imaginary fires and divided the jobs between themselves. Carrying water and handling buckets gave the play a practical purpose; agreeing responsibilities brought cooperation into the same activity.
Books also travelled beyond story time. In July 2025, babies pointed to illustrations while adults supplied language, and older children compared wheels in vehicle pictures with those on their toys. That made books useful within play, linking conversation, counting and observation. An apple-pip discovery prompted discussion about planting and growing a tree, connecting a child's immediate curiosity with where food comes from.
Natural resources and outdoor exploration are part of the current nursery approach. Forest School sessions add a named strand of learning outdoors; the approach centres on exploration of the natural world. For parents, the practical attraction is an offer that gives outdoor learning a place alongside indoor experiences.
In July 2025, children constructed an obstacle course and considered whether a ladder was safe to cross. Adults used questions to help them assess their choices, while children who hesitated could take a supporting hand. The physical equipment mattered, but so did the chance to make a decision rather than simply follow an instruction.
Local walks and recurring social groups also brought children and families together in July 2025. These extended relationships beyond children's nursery play and gave parents opportunities to meet one another.
In July 2025, staff responded to children's needs with gentle reminders, encouragement and conversations about feelings. Children practised expressing what they wanted, including asking to join other children's play. This connected language with everyday relationships: speaking up had a purpose.
Online communication was part of the relationship with parents in July 2025, alongside practical help accessing additional funding for attendance. Support therefore extended beyond updates about the nursery day to an issue that could affect whether a family could use childcare.
At the July 2025 inspection, Ofsted found safeguarding effective and identified attentive support for children with SEND, with developmental assessments and cooperation with other professionals helping staff respond to individual needs.
Mealtimes had a social role in July 2025. Children served food in turn and chatted with friends around the table, giving them opportunities to practise independence within a shared routine. Current meals and snacks are prepared on site, bringing food preparation into the nursery itself.
Opening hours are 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, across 51 weeks of the year. Closures include bank holidays and a week at Christmas. This calendar matters for families whose childcare needs continue through school holidays, while the Christmas closure requires a separate arrangement.

Both private childcare and 30 hour government-funded places are offered, subject to eligibility. Stretched funding allows funded hours to be spread across the year, making that arrangement relevant to families seeking continuity beyond term time. Current prices come in the nursery's written quotation.
Rosedene Redhill suits families who value learning built around children's interests, outdoor exploration and a nursery relationship that includes practical support for parents. Its strongest examples are small and concrete: a book used to compare wheels, apple pips becoming a growing discussion, and pretend firefighting becoming teamwork. The July 2025 judgement gives those examples weight. For families considering private childcare or stretched funded hours, the year-round calendar is another useful part of the offer.
Ofsted rated Rosedene Redhill Outstanding at its inspection on 9 July 2025, with all graded areas receiving that judgement.
