A baby room capped at six children and preschool spaces that children can move between give Little Sneakers at Studley a clear shape: care starts with individual routines, then makes more room for choice and independence. The nursery has capacity for 36 children aged three months to five years, at 46 Node Hill, Studley, B80 7RG.
At its February 2025 inspection, Ofsted rated the nursery Good and found safeguarding effective, with affectionate relationships helping children settle. Two practical improvement points temper that judgement: staff needed to make better use of spontaneous learning opportunities and apply hygiene routines consistently. Both matter to the everyday experience, rather than simply to an inspection grade.
For parents, the strongest concrete details are the small baby-room cap, the interconnected preschool environment and Tapestry, the secure app that lets families exchange observations and achievements with staff. These make the organisation of care easier to understand before choosing a place.
The Baby Room takes a maximum of six children, follows each child's home routine as closely as possible and combines sensory exploration with activities supporting early communication, movement and social interaction. That cap is a room maximum, separate from the nursery's total capacity. For a young baby, the continuity between home and nursery routines is a useful part of the offer.
The Todder Room emphasises emotional and social development, communication and physical skills, with adults modelling language and leaving children time to understand and respond. The pause matters: conversation is treated as an exchange in which children have space to contribute.
Pre-school occupies the ground floor, with three rooms children can move between, and uses natural materials, sensory activities and imaginative play to develop language, early literacy, mathematics and independence. Children can choose where to pursue an activity rather than remaining in one room throughout their play.
The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the learning framework, bringing together communication, physical development, relationships and early skills such as literacy and mathematics through children's daily experiences. Alongside that shared framework, this branch combines child-initiated play with adult guidance within the same activity. Practitioners adapt their involvement to a child's interests, development and emotional state.
Long stretches of play are protected from unnecessary interruptions. Natural objects and everyday resources can be explored for their texture or weight, or used imaginatively for something else. This gives children different ways to investigate a material and talk about what they discover.
Phase One Phonics develops listening skills through daily activities and some planned group work. Activities are selected around children's next steps and interests, so the programme has a concrete place in the day rather than being just a curriculum label. Early mark making and fine motor activities sit alongside it; children receive help with recognising and writing their names when ready.
In February 2025, babies practised reciprocal interaction by passing toys, while older children explored police roles through dressing up and imaginative play. Staff followed children's interests to extend activities, but some missed opportunities to develop what children were already doing. The important distinction is between giving children choice and making that choice productive through attentive adult involvement.
Tapestry records observations and achievements in individual family accounts, with parental permission arranged during registration. Staff can share activities for home, and parents can contribute experiences and achievements from outside nursery. Communication can therefore move in both directions, helping staff connect a child's interests at home with their learning here.
In February 2025, adults stayed near children who were new, offered reassurance and allowed them to investigate their surroundings at their own pace. Daily communication and regular developmental updates also formed part of family relationships at that time. These are useful examples of how settling and ongoing contact worked, rather than a promise that every child will adjust at the same speed.
The nursery's SENCOs set individual strategies and targets when children show delays in the main developmental areas, working with families and other professionals. Additional staffing supports children with additional needs where appropriate. The mechanism matters: support is linked to the child's needs rather than reduced to a broad statement about inclusion.
Books and other resources help children recognise feelings, while adults model language and use open questions during disagreements. Preschool children receive help with toileting and handwashing where needed, including nappy changing and toilet training. Independence is encouraged alongside practical assistance.
Meals come through a catering service, with provision for special dietary requirements; children may bring a packed lunch instead. At the February 2025 inspection, Ofsted identified hygiene weaknesses including cutlery handled during play being passed to another child for eating, and fallen food being returned from the table to plates. Those examples explain why consistent mealtime practice deserves attention.
Opening hours are 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The nursery operates for 51 weeks each year, closing on bank holidays and for a week at Christmas. Families organising work around childcare need to account for those closures as well as the daily opening window.

In February 2025, the nursery offered government-funded childcare and received additional funding for disadvantaged children. Current prices should come in the nursery's written quotation.
Preparation for Reception includes developing personal independence, communication and early writing. In February 2025, staff also made connections with local schools to help children move on. These connections help support children's transition to school.
Little Sneakers at Studley suits families who value a small baby-room cap, continuity with home routines and increasing freedom for older children to choose their play. Tapestry gives parents a practical role in sharing development, while the preschool layout supports movement between activities. The February 2025 hygiene and teaching-consistency findings are the counterweight: the strengths are specific, and so are the questions to pursue before choosing the nursery.
Ofsted rated it Good at the inspection on 18 February 2025 and found safeguarding effective. Improvement points concerned consistent hygiene routines and staff making fuller use of learning opportunities.
