Bright Horizons Woking Nursery & Preschool

At a Glance

In December 2023, snack-time tongs, children's invented stories and books borrowed for home gave Bright Horizons Woking Nursery & Preschool's learning a practical, everyday character. At its December 2023 inspection, Ofsted judged the nursery Good, found safeguarding effective and recognised targeted SEND support involving parents and the local authority inclusion officer.

The nursery has capacity for 80 children at Sandringham Court, Guildford Road, Woking. Children attending in December 2023 were aged 0 to 4. A later organisational safeguarding notice is material to the decision for families.

The Nursery Experience

In December 2023, children developed physical skills indoors and outside, including using slide steps, while picking vegetables up with tongs gave smaller hand movements a purpose. Older children invented stories and listened to one another's ideas. A lending library extended book-sharing into family life.

The early years foundation stage sets requirements for children's learning, development and care. Here, the December 2023 examples included language through songs and water play, physical activity and practising turn-taking in small groups. Staff assessed development to decide what children should learn next.

There was also a clear weakness: some activities lost children's interest, and questioning sometimes moved on before children had time to think. More precise learning intentions and targeted staff support were the improvement priorities. These matter because an appealing activity needs to help children learn, rather than simply occupy them.

Care and Support

In December 2023, settling arrangements adapted to individual children, and key people took responsibility for personal care. Babies practised feeding themselves; older children received encouragement as they persevered with coat fastenings. Familiar relationships supported these small steps towards independence.

Communication included care updates and developmental assessments shared with parents. Staff used words from children's home languages, including with babies beginning to speak. A parents' group also gave families a route to contribute their views.

In its notice dated 22 June 2026, Ofsted found that the group operating the nursery had not demonstrated that it could ensure consistently effective safeguarding across its provision, and required stronger organisational safeguarding leadership, oversight, handling of concerns and allegations, and staff training by 1 August 2026. These organisational actions did not establish concerns at every individual setting. The notice remains the latest published regulatory position; the December 2023 safeguarding judgement must be read alongside it.

Practical Information

The address is Sandringham Court, Guildford Road, Woking GU22 7QU. In December 2023, opening hours were 7.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, with year-round operation except for a Christmas week closure.

At that time, the nursery received funding for free early education for three- and four-year-olds. That dated participation should not be treated as a current entitlement or attendance promise.

Things to Consider

  • Organisational safeguarding action. The June 2026 notice required changes across the group by 1 August 2026. Ask how those actions have affected safeguarding oversight and staff practice at Woking.
  • Purposeful learning. In December 2023, some activities did not hold children's attention and questioning allowed too little thinking time. Ask how practitioners now plan learning intentions and sustain engagement.
  • Attendance arrangements. The December 2023 opening window covered the working day. What booking patterns and funded-hours arrangements would apply to your child now?

The Verdict

The December 2023 account will appeal to families who value key-person relationships, practical independence and learning that carries into home life through shared books. Those strengths come from December 2023 observations. The later organisational safeguarding notice adds a substantial consideration: families should weigh the nursery's everyday care alongside the actions required at group level.
