Stories, rhymes and growing independence give Hyndburn Park’s nursery its clearest character. This is the nursery provision within Accrington Hyndburn Park Primary School on Park Road, Accrington, where the school’s age range starts at three. Nursery belongs to the school’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team, giving it a place within the wider school structure.
At the Ofsted inspection on 28 and 29 June 2022, early years provision was graded Good. That judgement covered the school’s early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery. The early years findings highlighted children’s relationships with staff, their response to expectations and the beginnings of reading.
Language and independence are clear priorities from nursery onwards. Practical learning is used to develop vocabulary and encourage children to do more for themselves. For parents, that means the educational emphasis extends beyond recognising letters: becoming more independent is also part of the learning.
Within EYFS, early reading includes listening to rhymes and stories and beginning to connect written letters with their sounds. In June 2022, children enjoyed these activities, and adults helped them make those connections. This gives shared listening a purpose beyond entertainment: it introduces the relationship between spoken language and print.
The same June 2022 findings described early years children becoming accustomed quickly to expectations for behaviour and learning. Alongside the language work, this points to a day in which learning how to participate matters too.
Relationships are an important part of the start here. In June 2022, staff established trust promptly with children joining early years. For a child adjusting to school, that connection with adults matters alongside the learning activities.
Families can access the school’s Early Help services through its family liaison role. Support includes help with communication and language, parenting advice, and emotional wellbeing. Participation is voluntary, giving families a route to support when they want it. The school also says it makes reasonable adjustments so children with special educational needs or disabilities and their families can participate in school life.
Food safety has a specific practical requirement. The school is nut-aware, and families are asked to avoid sending foods containing nuts. This does not mean the site is guaranteed nut-free. Children with diagnosed allergies have Individual Healthcare Plans, staff receive annual allergy training, and food sharing is prohibited. Families should keep medical information and prescribed medication up to date.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Lancashire County Council’s online school-place service. Keep this application separate from the nursery application.
For the September 2026 intake, the closing date was 15 January 2026. That admissions cycle is now past; it should not be treated as the deadline for a later intake.
Nursery applications use a form completed electronically and returned by email. General enquiries can go to bursar@hyndburnpark.lancs.sch.uk or 01254 233171. Families can also contact the school to arrange a visit, providing an opportunity to discuss joining the nursery.
