Wild Woods, Little Wandle and swimming for children aged three and above give Farleigh's nursery day a distinctive shape. This is provision for children aged two and above at a Catholic independent school in Red Rice, Andover. The nursery's September 2026 start brings younger children into the school's pre-prep provision, alongside the separate Kindergarten stage before Reception.
Child-chosen play sits alongside activities led by adults, with both indoor and outdoor learning in the mix. The sample timetable for autumn 2026 is subject to change, but gives a useful picture of the balance: welcome activities and registration, a snack, play and organised activities, then stories and lunch. It is a day with several changes of pace.
Little Wandle introduces early phonics, giving children contact with the sounds used in reading. French and music feature on Wednesday, PE on Thursday and dance on Friday. Monday includes swimming for children aged three and above, so that activity has an age condition rather than applying to every nursery child.
Outdoors, the Trim Trail and playground provide physical spaces for activity, while nature walks and Wild Woods add exploration beyond indoor play. Tuesday includes Wild Woods. These sit alongside free play and stories, giving families a picture of a programme that combines movement, language and time to choose an activity. The afternoon also includes indoor activities, outdoor activities and sandwiches. Children staying for the full day therefore have more than a longer version of the morning session.
Lunch is included in the morning session, which finishes at 1.00pm. Snacks, sandwiches and a period for sleep also feature in the sample day. For a younger child staying into the afternoon, that balance of activity and rest is a practical part of the routine.
Families must discuss special educational needs, disabilities or allergies with the school before entry. Admission depends on whether the school can provide the necessary support and accommodate the child's needs; ongoing learning support places also depend on capacity. Additional learning support can carry a charge where other funding does not cover it. This makes an early discussion about the child's needs consequential for both provision and family budgeting.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and is not one of the school's oversubscription preferences. Reception admission needs its own decision through the school: contact the admissions team about entry, with an assessment morning forming part of the process for children being considered for pre-prep admission. Offers depend on place availability and meeting the admission requirements.
Transition and admission serve different purposes. After a place has been accepted, a moving up day introduces children to lessons and activities, either in the summer term for a September start or by arrangement for entry during the academic year. That helps prepare for a change of stage; it does not replace an admissions decision.
Morning sessions run from 8.00am to 1.00pm, including lunch; full days finish at 5.00pm. Breakfast extends care back to 7.30am, and supper runs from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. Booking starts at three mornings a week, with patterns of three, four or five days. Changing a booking requires six weeks' notice, so families need to plan changes ahead.
The monthly model covers 50 weeks, with a two-week closure over Christmas and New Year. Termly attendance covers 34 weeks across the three school terms. Ad-hoc sessions depend on space, including holiday sessions for children with termly places.
Funded hours start in the term after a child's third birthday and operate in the afternoon, from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. They can be claimed across 38 weeks with monthly payment or 34 weeks with termly payment, and do not apply to ad-hoc bookings. Breakfast and supper are charged separately. Contact the school for current charges and the admissions team at admissions@farleighschool.com or 01264 712838 to arrange a visit.
