Language development gives this nursery its clearest character: adults use their conversations with children to extend understanding, while vocabulary receives deliberate attention. The provision at Knights Enham Nursery and Infant School includes two-year-olds and the Ducks nursery for children aged three to four. It is part of the infant school in Andover, rather than a separate nursery setting.
Ofsted’s inspection published on 3 March 2026 judged early years to meet the Expected standard, with appropriate provision for two- and three-year-olds. That is an early-years judgement within the school inspection. At that point, the nursery had 12 places for two-year-olds and provision for 60 children. These are nursery figures, distinct from the school’s overall capacity.
Conversation is a teaching tool here. In March 2026, interactions between adults and children were of high quality, with staff using their knowledge to deepen children’s understanding. Vocabulary development was a clear priority. For parents, that gives a useful picture of learning through exchanges with adults, rather than simply completing activities.
The early years foundation stage (EYFS) combines that language focus with reading and learning across its curriculum. Reading receives particular attention, and phonics is taught systematically. Staff explain learning clearly and accurately in most instances, helping children build knowledge progressively. The emphasis is on developing understanding over time.
Adults review teaching and adjust both learning provision and the environment when children need additional help. There is a qualification to the positive picture: some checks on learning do not consistently help a small group of children deepen their knowledge as effectively as they could. How adults recognise and respond to misunderstandings is therefore a useful focus for a conversation about a child’s progress.
Partnership with parents begins at the start of a child’s education here. In March 2026, that partnership worked effectively, giving families a role in supporting their child’s learning from the outset.
Early identification is a concrete strength of support for special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Adults know children well and recognise SEND promptly. Makaton and modified learning resources are among the approaches used to help children progress. Support therefore includes changes to how children communicate and access learning, rather than relying on one method for everyone.
Social learning also starts in nursery. From the Nursery Year, children play together cooperatively and treat one another respectfully. That matters alongside the language work: children are developing ways to share play as well as express themselves.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through the normal Reception admissions process and meet its deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as separate decisions.
