Schools in Ashton-under-Lyne

Once one of Lancashire's busiest cotton towns, Ashton-under-Lyne earned its market charter in 1414 and was transformed by the cotton trade in 1769, which reordered its streets into a grid and drew mills to the banks of the River Tame in the Pennine foothills. Today the town sits within Tameside, Greater Manchester, with around 48,000 residents.

Northern Rail links reach Manchester Piccadilly in around fifteen minutes. Mossley and Lees draw families competing for primary places at the eastern edge of the borough, while Hurst and Broadoak extend the residential catchment toward the Pennine fringe, with Holden Fold on the quieter northern edge.
