Schools in Glossop

Recorded in the Domesday Book as a parish in 1086 and later shaped by the Duke of Norfolk's Glossopdale landholdings, Glossop developed into a sandstone mill town on the northern edge of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. Hadfield and Old Glossop are the most sought-after pockets for school catchments in the area, drawing families competing for primary places on either side of the valley. Cotton and calico production expanded rapidly from the late eighteenth century, leaving a townscape of Victorian chapels, grade II-listed mill buildings, and the Dinting railway viaduct. Simmondley extends the residential catchment westward, while Northern Rail services from Glossop station reach Manchester Piccadilly in roughly thirty minutes. Around 17,800 people live here today.
