Schools in Barrow-in-Furness
Once a hamlet under the sway of Furness Abbey, Barrow-in-Furness was remade by Victorian iron investors and the Furness Railway into one of northern England's most distinctive planned industrial towns, occupying the tip of the Furness peninsula in Cumbria between Morecambe Bay and the Duddon Estuary.
Hindpool forms the historic core of the grid-planned borough and is among the most sought-after pockets for school catchments, while Barrow Island and Yarlside draw families competing for primary places in a catchment compressed by the peninsula's geography. Parkside and the surrounding estates extend the residential arc northward. Around 55,000 people lived in Barrow at the 2021 census; Northern Rail links the town to Lancaster in under an hour, with connections to the West Coast Main Line.
