Two nursery classes give Victoria Infant and Nursery School’s youngest learners their own place within the Foundation Stage. Each class has space for 26 children. Full days sit alongside attendance across five mornings or five afternoons, making the pattern of attendance a practical part of choosing this nursery.
The character of the provision comes through in its learning examples: counting inspired by a picture book and children searching outdoors for bugs. These bring early number work and opportunities to cooperate into activities young children can take part in.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar provides a concrete starting point for counting. At the April 2024 inspection, the youngest children counted the story’s fruit confidently, while another group collaborated on an outdoor bug hunt. Numbers have something tangible attached to them; outdoor exploration gives children a reason to work together.
Children showed enthusiasm for learning and practised both independent activity and cooperation. That combination matters for the nursery day: there is room to attempt something individually as well as take part with other children. The outdoor area is a learning space, with the bug hunt showing how it contributes to activity beyond the classroom.
Curriculum planning includes nursery overviews organised into two cycles for 2023–2025, alongside an EYFS Progression of Skills Map. The April 2024 inspection illustrates nursery learning in practical terms: early counting with storybook fruit, working independently and cooperating with other children on an outdoor bug hunt. The cycle dates refer to that earlier planning period.
In April 2024, children in the early years were happy to attend and understood that adults could help them with difficulties. This gives the care picture a concrete focus: children knew where to turn for support.
Learning the rules begins in the early years too. Familiar expectations help children understand how to take part alongside others, connecting the social side of nursery with its learning activities.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Victoria. Families must submit a separate Reception application, even when their child already attends the nursery. Treat that application as a distinct step in planning your child’s next year.
The local authority is responsible for admissions. The school directs families to Westmorland and Furness’s online Reception application route; applications open in September, with a January closing month for entry the following September. Where applications exceed places, allocation follows the admission policy.
Attendance can follow full days or five morning or afternoon sessions. The nursery can provide 15 or 30 hours of childcare. For working parents, additional charged wraparound provision includes Breakfast Club and After School Club, extending care around the nursery attendance pattern. Contact the school for current charges.
Nursery application forms can be requested by email or collected from the office. Use secretary@vicinf.co.uk or call 01229 812537 to enquire. Families can also arrange a look around by contacting the office, giving them an opportunity to see the setting before making their choice.
