Nursery at Twerton Infant School

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Robins and Owls give Twerton’s nursery its own identity within the infant school: Robins Room is for two-year-olds, while Owls Room serves children aged three and four. The nursery shares the school’s Poolemead Road address in Twerton, Bath. These age-specific rooms give families a clear starting point for understanding where their child will spend their time.

Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good following its March 2023 inspection. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.

The Nursery Day

Practical challenges give the early years day some character. In March 2023, children worked together to gather wood for sawing, combining outdoor activity with cooperation and persistence. Early years children showed curiosity and enjoyment in their learning. The task mattered beyond the finished result: tackling a difficulty together helped children develop problem-solving skills and keep trying.

Learning also builds from what a child already understands. Early years staff used their assessments effectively to choose activities that revisited learning and introduced further knowledge. For parents, this means the activities have a purpose beyond keeping children occupied: staff use what they learn about each child to decide what comes next.

Robins Room and Owls Room provide the named indoor bases. Beyond them, the school has an on-site Forest School, where seasonal changes become material for exploration and learning. Outdoor sessions continue across the year and in different weather conditions when safety allows. The school also uses OPAL, its outdoor play and learning programme, with early years aims including independence, movement skills and understanding the environment. Outdoor learning is part of the educational offer, rather than simply a break between indoor activities.

Care and Support

Starting nursery receives deliberate attention. In March 2023, transition arrangements helped younger children settle, with staff learning about their personalities and existing achievements. This gives adults a starting point for supporting the individual child, rather than treating settling as the same process for everyone.

Relationships with families are part of that support. Early years transition work included positive partnerships with most parents. The school’s approach also encourages communication between families and staff. For a parent managing the first separation, the combination of getting to know the child and keeping a conversation going is a useful emphasis.

Moving On to Reception

Reception admission is separate. Attending Twerton’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make another application through the normal Reception admissions route and meet its deadline. Treat choosing a nursery session and applying for Reception as two distinct decisions; becoming familiar with the school does not secure the next place.

Practical Information

Three session patterns make the daily choice straightforward. Morning sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am; afternoons run from noon to 3pm. A full day runs from 8:45am to 3pm. The nursery operates Monday to Friday, giving families a choice between a shorter session and the full nursery day.

For enquiries, telephone 01225 423 526 or email office@twertoninfants.com. The contact form includes an option to arrange a visit, so families can request a tour while discussing nursery attendance. The address is Poolemead Road, Bath, BA2 1QR.
