Schools in Bath

In the valley of the River Avon, enclosed by wooded limestone hills in Somerset, Bath grew from a Roman spa settlement of around 60 AD into a Georgian city whose honey-coloured stone crescents and terraces earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 1987. Great Western Railway services from Bath Spa reach Bristol Temple Meads in around twelve minutes, placing the city within easy range of the Southwest's second major school and employment hub. Lansdown, rising steeply north of the Royal Crescent, is among the most sought-after addresses for school catchments in the city, while Widcombe, across the river to the south, draws families competing for primary places near the centre. Bath's historic core concentrates several of the city's most keenly contested state-school places, and Combe Down and the village of Freshford extend the catchment search into the quieter surrounding countryside. Around 94,000 people live in the city today.
