The county town of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Beverley traces its origins to the seventh century, when John of Beverley established a church on what was then Anglian Northumbrian soil. Beverley Minster and the medieval North Bar gatehouse mark a compact market town that once ranked among England's dozen largest settlements. Norwood is among the most sought-after pockets for primary catchments, with Beverley town centre and Woodmansey each drawing families competing for school places.
