At Crossflatts, Ofsted’s May 2024 inspection described stories and rhymes linking indoor learning with outdoor activities, giving young children familiar ideas to carry into their play. This is the nursery belonging to Crossflatts Primary School on Morton Lane in Bingley. Children can join from age three. At that inspection, children learned alongside others, explored their interests and developed confidence in conversation.
Ofsted’s inspection on 15 and 16 May 2024 found that the early years curriculum gave children a sound basis for subsequent learning. Those findings cover the school’s early years provision; they are not a separate nursery rating.
In May 2024, familiar tales provided starting points for activities across the indoor and outdoor learning areas. That connection gave children opportunities to explore ideas from stories through play, rather than keeping books separate from the rest of their learning. The early years spaces were arranged to support both planned learning and children’s own interests in May 2024. Children could pursue an interest while taking part in the curriculum.
Learning with others was central to the May 2024 early years picture. In May 2024, children played cooperatively with adult support, practising how to listen, work together and speak more confidently. These are useful foundations for joining group activities and expressing an idea or a need. Play had a clear educational purpose in that inspection picture.
Early reading also formed part of the early years experience described in May 2024. Children made a prompt start with reading in May 2024, with phonics teaching helping them connect sounds and written words. For parents, the combination of stories, conversation and early reading gives a concrete picture of how language learning connects with play.
Recognising additional needs early is an important part of support. In May 2024, children in the early years who might require extra help were identified promptly. That matters for families whose child needs support as they begin learning in a group.
Adult involvement also supported children’s shared play. The May 2024 picture was of children learning successfully alongside one another, with staff helping them develop the social and communication skills needed to participate.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place at Crossflatts Primary School. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline.
The nursery application goes to the school, while Reception enquiries go to Bradford City Council’s admissions team on 01274 439200. Keep the two processes separate in your planning: accepting a nursery place does not complete the application for the next stage.
Nursery enquiries go through the School Office. Alternatively, families can download the Nursery Application Form from the Nursery section under the website’s Parents/Carers tab and return it to school. A child’s birth certificate must be shown, so have it ready when applying.
September is the main nursery intake. January places are offered to eligible families only if spaces remain after September. This makes January a conditional starting point, rather than a second intake families can assume will have vacancies.
Children must be three years old to join.
Contact the School Office or download and return the Nursery Application Form. The school needs to see your child’s birth certificate.
January places are offered to eligible families only when spaces remain after the main September intake.
