Nursery at Court Farm Primary School

A school-hours timetable gives Court Farm’s nursery its practical shape: children aged three and four attend within the primary school in Erdington, with 15-hour and 30-hour options. This is provision organised around the school day. Families needing extra hours should weigh that carefully, because paid top-ups are not permitted.
Court Farm describes teamwork and partnership with families as central to its ethos. Within the early years team, roles include a senior nursery officer and a nursery officer, alongside an EYFS teacher/lead and teaching assistants. That places nursery provision within a broader early years team.
Learning to recognise feelings is a specific part of the early years approach. Zones of Regulation uses four colours to help children identify their emotional state; in Early Years, the emphasis is on recognising different emotions. The school aims to give children strategies for managing those feelings. For a young child, identifying a feeling is the starting point rather than expecting them to explain complex behaviour.
Past early years plans give some concrete examples of activities beyond the regular timetable. The spring 2024 programme scheduled Living Eggs for EYFS, while the summer programme included an EYFS Balance Bike Day. These were dated activities, rather than promises about the current nursery timetable. An autumn 2024 EYFS reading workshop was also scheduled in the school hall, intended to help families support reading at home.
Emotion coaching connects the school’s behaviour approach with that work on feelings. All staff have received training in it. Court Farm uses a restorative approach, asking children to consider the effect of their actions and giving those who have caused harm an opportunity to put things right. The emphasis is on understanding what happened and repairing harm.
For concerns about additional needs, families can contact the school’s SENDCo through enquiry@courtfrm.bham.sch.uk. This gives parents a direct route to discuss their child’s needs. Nursery learning queries have their own contact, nurseryclass@courtfrm.bham.sch.uk, so there is also a route straight to the class team.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Birmingham City Council’s normal Reception admissions process; the council allocates places for children starting school. Treat that application as a separate task, even if your child already attends Court Farm’s nursery.
Entry begins in the term following a child’s third birthday, with enrolment at the start of the September, January and April (after Easter) terms. The 15-hour and 30-hour timetables follow normal school opening hours. Paid additional hours are not an option, so the chosen timetable needs to fit the family’s childcare arrangements.
Funding involves a signed provider agreement, which must be kept up to date and is discussed at enrolment. Nursery application forms can be obtained from the school office; completed forms go to enquiry@courtfrm.bham.sch.uk with a photograph of the child’s birth certificate and the parent’s proof of address. For nursery enquiries, call 0121 464 1038. The school is on Tedbury Crescent, Erdington, B23 5NS.
