Stories, conversation and woodland exploration give this nursery its character. Part of Lift Four Dwellings Primary in Quinton, Birmingham, it combines play with adult teaching and familiar routines. The emphasis is on children becoming more independent while learning to express themselves and join in with others.
Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 29 and 30 November 2023. That judgement covers the early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Play and teaching work together here. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) shapes the curriculum: children develop communication, movement and social skills alongside early reading, number understanding, creativity and exploration of the world. Adult teaching sits alongside opportunities to investigate and play, giving children both guidance and room to make choices.
Language receives close attention. In November 2023, children in the early years settled readily, and adults helped develop their speech during play, conversation, rhymes and storytelling. This makes talking part of ordinary activity, rather than something reserved for a lesson. Opportunities to learn about different jobs also begin in Nursery. A Hospital Playworker visited the nursery on 21 January 2025, bringing a concrete example of working life into school.
Outdoors, children have a spacious play area and use woodland regularly. These are distinct spaces for exploration alongside indoor learning. The school aims to use outdoor experiences to support children's development and wellbeing, with activities planned around learning as well as play.
Settling starts with a partnership between families and the nursery team. Staff work with parents to help children become comfortable with the change, and ongoing conversations support an understanding of each child's needs and progress. That gives parents a role beyond the initial introduction.
Fresh fruit and milk are provided in the morning. Practical care also includes close supervision during activities, secured entrances throughout the day and staff trained in safeguarding. At collection, at least two members of the team oversee the handover, giving this busy moment a clear staffing arrangement.
For families managing additional needs, the school's SEND coordinator can be contacted through the office or by email. School support covers learning needs, communication difficulties, emotional needs and sensory or physical needs. Children with medical conditions have a care plan developed with parents and a medical assistant, so the adults involved can share the same understanding of their care.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Birmingham City Council Admissions, even when their child already attends this nursery. Treat that application as a distinct step in planning your child's schooling and submit it by the normal deadline for the relevant admissions round.

Uniform is encouraged for nursery children. Comfortable clothes and footwear that children can manage themselves support independence; pack a spare outfit too. These small preparations fit the nursery's emphasis on children gradually doing more for themselves.
