At the January 2023 inspection, family participation was part of early-years reading: Read to Succeed brought parents and children together to read in the morning. Nursery provision is part of Oasis Academy Hobmoor in Yardley, with children starting from the term after their third birthday. There are 78 nursery places, and provision is part time. This is a school nursery with a session-based day, so the practical fit depends on which half of the day suits your family.
In January 2023, Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Stories and early reading have a clear purpose here. In January 2023, learning to read was a priority from the start of early years. Read to Succeed brought parents into morning reading, while stories selected for adults to share helped children hear and rehearse sounds from phonics. This gives families a concrete way to participate in learning, rather than leaving reading entirely to staff.
The learning environment needs closer consideration. In January 2023, children did not consistently get enough opportunities to use their learning beyond reading through the activities and environment provided. Planning also needed to do more to encourage curiosity and help children put learning into practice. For parents considering Hobmoor, that makes opportunities to explore and apply ideas a useful focus during a visit, alongside the reading activities.
Settling is adjusted to the child. Staff work with parents as children begin nursery, and induction arrangements differ according to individual needs. The implication is practical: the start is shaped around how a child copes with separation, rather than expecting an identical induction for everyone.
Across the academy, support for special educational needs and disabilities includes termly meetings with parents to discuss progress. Families can raise concerns with their child’s teacher or the Inclusion Leader, with appointments arranged through the office. Medical care plans are developed with parents and the school nurse where a child has medical needs, then shared with the staff involved.
Physical access across the school includes adapted toilets, ramps serving the main entrance and playground, and lift access between floors. These are useful features for families considering mobility needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no priority under the 2026–2027 admission criteria. Families must make a separate Reception application through Birmingham City Council’s Common Application Form. Parents living outside Birmingham use the form from their home local authority. Apply by the deadline for your child’s entry year.
For children with SEND moving between classes, information is passed to the next teacher beforehand, usually with a planning meeting. A book explaining the change may also be made where suitable. This support concerns preparation for change, separately from allocating a school place.
Monday to Friday sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am or from 12:45pm to 3:15pm. Afternoon nursery registration is at 12:30pm, so families choosing afternoons should account for that earlier registration time.
The nursery offers 15 hours of free part-time provision per child. Applications are handled by the academy: request a form by email or collect one from the school office. For enquiries, contact enquiries@oasishobmoor.org or call 0121 6753269. Visits can be arranged with the office by special request, giving parents an opportunity to discuss the session pattern and their child’s start.
