Nursery at Moor Park Primary School

Play, outdoor learning and a gradual start shape the nursery experience at Moor Park. This school nursery in Bispham, Blackpool, takes children aged 3 and 4, with 52 places overall and room for 26 children per session. Morning and afternoon groups give families two distinct attendance patterns within the primary school.
Children choose some activities themselves; adults lead others. Sessions include work in groups of different sizes, giving children opportunities to try unfamiliar activities and practise working together. Learning takes place indoors and outside, with outdoor activity treated as equally important. Protective clothing supports messy activities and outdoor play, so practical clothes matter more than keeping an outfit spotless.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guides learning and care. Its seven areas bring together physical development, communication, relationships and emotions with maths, literacy, creative expression and understanding the world. For parents, this means the nursery day covers much more than preparation for reading and writing. Play gives children opportunities to experiment, make decisions and use skills they already have.
Independence is an explicit aim. The nursery encourages children to explore different solutions and develop at their own pace. Even clothing choices serve that purpose: easy fastenings help children manage dressing themselves.
The nursery team comprises a qualified teacher, a nursery nurse and nursery assistants. Settling is agreed with parents, with attendance built up gradually, usually over two weeks and longer where needed. That staged start allows the move into nursery to respond to the child rather than requiring a full session immediately. Parents can share their child's interests with staff and join informal conversations about activities and learning.
Food includes fruit, bread products, milk and yoghurt drinks, with drinking water accessible throughout the day. Nursery children can have a school lunch or bring a packed lunch. Before starting, registration gathers dietary needs, allergies, emergency contacts and collection arrangements, bringing essential care information together.
For children on the SEND register, parents and carers are invited to termly meetings to review their child's provision. Moor Park works with Acorn Psychology and Pepper Therapy Speech and Language services, alongside its local authority SEND Link Teacher. These are school support arrangements, rather than a separate nursery entitlement.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no admissions priority at Moor Park. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority: Blackpool residents use Blackpool Council, while Lancashire residents apply through Lancashire County Council. For the September 2026 intake, the deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle has passed.
Support for a child's move is a separate matter. For children with SEND starting or leaving Moor Park, the school aims to arrange transition discussions with the professionals involved so that essential information is shared.
The standard pattern is five mornings each week, 9am to 12pm, or five afternoons, 12pm to 3pm. A funded 15-hour place begins in the term after the child's third birthday; intakes generally start in autumn, spring and summer. Eligible working families can access 30 funded hours, with an eligibility reference supplied to the office to confirm entitlement. Requests for funded-session flexibility depend on availability and staffing, so families should distinguish the standard pattern from an individually agreed arrangement.
Nursery children can also use breakfast and after-school care. Contact the office on 01253 353034 or admin@moor-park.blackpool.sch.uk for enquiries, visits and current charges.
Access to nursery is through Toronto Avenue; during sessions, use the school entrance. Bring labelled spare clothes, a daily coat or jacket, wellington boots and pumps with elastic or Velcro fastenings. Nursery uniform is optional, and manageable play clothes support both independence and messy learning.
