An outdoor nursery and a choice of morning, afternoon or full-day sessions give Beacon its clearest character. Children can join from age three, within Beacon Academy on Robartes Road in Bodmin. For parents choosing a first school setting, the combination brings two practical considerations together: an outdoor environment and a session length that can fit the family day.
Beacon’s shared values are Be Brave, Be Brilliant and Believe. The school aims for children to be happy and successful, with personal and social development alongside their learning.
The nursery has an outdoor learning environment. That is the physical feature to keep in mind when considering Beacon: outdoor provision forms part of its nursery identity, rather than simply being a feature of the wider primary school.
Morning sessions begin at 8:30am and finish at 11:30am. Afternoon attendance finishes at 3pm, while the full day lasts from 8:30am until 3pm. The shorter options each offer a distinct part of the day; the full-day option extends across both morning and afternoon. Families can therefore consider a shorter session or a longer nursery day when choosing their attendance pattern.
Contact with staff can go through the school office, and staff are also available at the beginning and end of the day. This gives parents a direct route for passing on information about their child and arranging a conversation with the team.
For special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), Beacon has a SEND co-ordinator and a deputy. Parents can arrange an appointment with the co-ordinator through the office. Having that named role within the team gives families a clear starting point for discussing additional needs. Separately, the school’s Area Resource Base serves pupils from age four; it should not be confused with the nursery provision.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal school admissions process. Cornwall Council manages admissions to the trust’s schools, so the council’s school admissions service is the route for that application.
Keep the two processes distinct when planning ahead: a nursery application goes to Beacon, while a Reception application goes through Cornwall Council. Choosing the nursery is a decision about the early years day; it does not settle the later school place.
To book a nursery tour, contact the office on 01208 72773 or email beacon@kernowlearning.co.uk. Nursery applications use an admissions form, and the office can help families who need the form in another format. A tour provides a concrete next step before making an application.
The nursery address is 38 Robartes Road, Bodmin, Cornwall, PL31 1JQ. Plan collection around the nursery session chosen: 11:30am for mornings and 3pm for afternoons or full days. These nursery timings are the relevant starting point for organising the family’s daily routine.
