Nursery at Berrycoombe School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Songs, rhymes and learning to communicate give Berrycoombe’s nursery its clearest character. For a young child beginning to find their voice, that emphasis matters: taking part and expressing themselves are central to the early learning described here.
The nursery opened in September 2021 for children aged two to four within Berrycoombe School, on Berrycoombe Vale in Bodmin. It is school-attached provision. At the inspection on 27 and 28 September 2022, Ofsted graded early years provision Good; that judgement covers the school’s early years provision rather than a separate nursery inspection.
Communication was a deliberate teaching priority in September 2022. Adults concentrated on developing children’s language, and children made rapid progress in those skills. Singing and familiar nursery rhymes provided concrete opportunities to participate. Children joined these activities eagerly. The emphasis gives parents something specific to consider beyond preparation for formal lessons: how their child will practise speaking and joining in with others.
For families seeking advice about special educational needs and disabilities, the school’s SENCO is available Monday to Thursday for conversations, advice and support. This gives parents a direct school contact for discussing their child’s needs.
SENDIASS provides another route to impartial guidance for parents and carers of children with special educational needs or a disability. Its role includes information, advice and support. For a family considering nursery, that independent advice can sit alongside discussions with the school.
A separate application. Attending Berrycoombe’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply again through the normal Reception admissions process, meeting the deadline for their child’s entry year. Cornwall Council coordinates admissions for the beginning of the academic year, so nursery enrolment and the later school application need to be treated as separate decisions.
Choosing the nursery should therefore rest on the provision for the child now. Familiarity with a school does not remove the need to complete the Reception application through Cornwall Council.
Berrycoombe School can be contacted on 01208 74969 or by email at berrycoombe@tpacademytrust.org. The address is Berrycoombe Vale, Bodmin, Cornwall, PL31 2PH. These are school contact routes for a family making an initial nursery enquiry.
Families considering Reception are welcome to arrange a school visit and meet the staff. That offers an opportunity to discuss the later application separately from the nursery decision. Keep the two steps distinct when planning ahead: contacting the school about nursery is one step, and applying through Cornwall Council for Reception is another.
