Thirteen nursery places within Oak Class give Croughton All Saints’ youngest children a place in the school’s shared early years provision. Nursery and Reception belong to the same class. This is a school nursery with an indoor and outdoor setting, taking children from age 3.
Opened in September 2023, the nursery offers September, January or April starts. Its character centres on active exploration: the nursery aims to encourage children’s curiosity as they begin learning. The surrounding school has a Church of England identity, with Belonging and Respect as its two central values.
Activity and exploration shape the nursery’s approach, with learning taking place outside as well as indoors. For a young child, that means the setting extends beyond the classroom. The wider school site includes an outdoor classroom, farmland views and a large space for outdoor play; these facilities belong to the wider school site.
Oak brings Nursery and Reception together in the same class. Its team includes teachers, early years practitioners and teaching assistants. Teaching is covered by one teacher on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with another taking Wednesdays, so families have a defined weekly teaching pattern.
Lunch falls between 11:30am and 12:30pm in the nursery day, which finishes at 3:15pm. This provides a practical rhythm around which families can organise collection.
Parents can contact the Oak team directly at oakclass@croughtonschool.co.uk. For special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), the class teacher is the initial contact, and parents can also approach the special educational needs coordinator through the office. Families considering a place for a child with additional needs are invited to arrange a meeting with the headteacher or coordinator before applying.
Fresh Start Catering supplies school lunches, with orders made through the caterer. Prescribed medication requires a completed medicine form, returned to the office with the medicine; administration is handled by staff trained in first aid. These arrangements give families specific routes for organising meals and medical care.
Safeguarding procedures across the school include annual staff training and suitability checks for staff and volunteers. Children can raise worries with any staff member, giving them more than one adult to approach.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal school admissions route. Applications go through West Northamptonshire Council’s primary school application service, with parents asked to apply in the autumn term before their child is due to start school.
Sharing Oak Class is a classroom arrangement. Families should keep the Reception application separate from their nursery booking.
Flexible hours include 15-hour and 30-hour options, with additional hours available to purchase. Nursery applications go to the school office using the nursery enquiry form. Visits can be arranged by calling 01869 810 727 or emailing bursar@croughton.northants-ecl.gov.uk, allowing families to meet staff and discuss the provision.
Drop-off takes place during the 8:40am to 8:55am gate-opening window. Nursery uniform combines a polo shirt and red sweater, either plain or with the logo, with bottoms chosen to suit the child. Leggings, joggers, trousers or a skirt are options, keeping the clothing choice practical for the individual child.
Children can join from age 3. The nursery has capacity for 13 children and offers September, January or April starts.
There are flexible 15-hour and 30-hour options, plus paid additional hours. The nursery day ends at 3:15pm.
