White Rose Maths, Jigsaw and an Early Years Nativity give Bankfoot’s nursery a recognisable mix of early learning, personal development and performance. This is the school’s own nursery on Bolingbroke Street in Bradford, with applications handled by the school itself.
Ofsted judged the early years provision Good at the inspection on 26 and 27 November 2024. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than being a separate nursery rating. Established routines begin in early years, giving children a consistent structure for learning.
Learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Alongside it, White Rose Maths supports nursery mathematics and Jigsaw supports personal, social and health education. The emphasis on language starts early: children have opportunities to talk, while Read Write Inc provides the phonics approach. For parents, these named programmes give a concrete picture of how early learning is organised.
Experiences extend beyond classroom teaching. Trips are planned for nursery classes, and the November 2024 early years findings describe a local farm visit that helped children explore the world around them. Learning about religious celebrations and beliefs also begins in early years. These experiences connect learning with places and traditions children can discuss.
The Early Years Nativity adds an opportunity to perform and practise communication. Writing instruction starts in early years too, although in November 2024 the revised writing approach was still new and its impact had yet to be fully evaluated.
Small adaptations can make a practical difference. In November 2024, an early years example involved using a pom-pom to support a child’s pencil grip, showing how a simple resource can help children take part in learning.
Bankfoot’s school-wide SEND process uses Bradford’s Graduated Approach, with support assessed, planned, put into practice and reviewed. Parents begin with the class teacher; the SENCO can then help shape an Individual Education Plan. Plans are reviewed each half term, giving families a regular point at which support can be adjusted. Depending on need, specialist input may include Speech and Language Therapy or the Social, Communication, Interaction, and Learning team.
Attending Bankfoot’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Nursery entry and Reception entry are separate: the school handles nursery applications, while Bradford Local Authority manages Reception admission. Families must apply again through the normal Reception process by its deadline.
Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as two decisions. Familiarity with the school does not secure the later place.
Morning sessions run from 8:10am to 11:10am, Monday to Friday. Afternoon sessions run from 12:10pm to 3:10pm, Monday to Thursday. That difference matters when arranging childcare for Friday afternoons.
The nursery application form lets parents express a preference for mornings, afternoons or Full time 30 Hours. Parents can submit it at any age, and staff follow up after submission. Enquiries can also go to the office on 01274 732068 or office@bankfoot.bradford.sch.uk.
Uniform is required in nursery. Children wear a red jumper, sweatshirt or cardigan, with a red or white top; lower garments can be grey or black, and a red, grey or black shalwar kameez is another option. Logo items are optional. Label clothing with your child’s name, and provide black indoor shoes or pumps as well as suitable black outdoor footwear.
Mornings are 8:10am to 11:10am from Monday to Friday. Afternoons are 12:10pm to 3:10pm from Monday to Thursday.
