Books from the age of two and bug hunts give Bradford Academy’s early years a concrete character: stories, conversation and practical discovery. Nursery provision sits within the academy’s primary phase in Bradford, where children can begin at two. It is part of an all-through school.
Ofsted judged the early years provision Good at the inspection on 29 and 30 April 2025. That judgement covers the school’s early years, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Indoor and outdoor spaces both contribute to learning. In April 2025, early-years staff helped children investigate their surroundings and extend their ideas, using exploration to encourage conversation and understanding. A bug hunt provided a practical example: children used knowledge they already had while discovering more. This gives parents a useful picture of learning through activity, with adults helping children make connections.
Topics change over time, giving children different things to investigate. The early-years emphasis is on curiosity and discussion, so the activity matters for more than keeping children occupied: it creates something to notice, think about and talk about.
Reading begins early. Children have access to books from two, and parents are encouraged to share reading with them during the early years. For families, this creates a connection between learning in the setting and time spent together at home. Sharing a story can continue the interest in books beyond the nursery session.
For questions about special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), families can contact the academy’s SEND team at SENDCO@bradfordacademy.co.uk. Include your child’s name, year group and the subject you want to discuss. This gives the team the information needed to arrange a conversation about your child.
The academy says it will respond within 7 days to offer an appointment by telephone or in person. That is a timeframe for arranging contact, rather than a promise that a concern will be resolved within that period. Families have a direct route to discuss their questions with the team.
Attending Bradford Academy’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat choosing a nursery session and applying for Reception as two separate decisions; accepting a nursery place does not remove the need to apply again.
Morning sessions run from 08:15 to 11:50, Monday to Friday. Afternoon sessions begin at 11:50 and finish at 15:10 from Monday to Thursday. Friday afternoons end earlier, at 14:10. The Friday difference matters when planning collection and fitting nursery around work or other children’s routines.
For general nursery enquiries, contact the academy on 01274 256789 or email info@bradfordacademy.co.uk. The morning timetable is consistent across the week, while families considering afternoons need to allow for the shorter Friday session.
