Stories, rhymes and woodland visits give Iqra’s nursery its clearest character: early learning combines language with time beyond the classroom. This is the school’s own nursery on Drummond Road in Bradford, with children usually joining at three. Morning and afternoon sessions provide two distinct patterns for families.
Ofsted graded the early years provision Good following its inspection on 31 October and 1 November 2023. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery. The practical emphasis on independence also matters: children are expected to manage toileting, cutlery and dressing before joining.
Books give a concrete picture of learning here. In October and November 2023, early years staff brought enthusiasm to storytelling, while children supplied missing parts of rhymes to develop vocabulary. Children also learnt sounds within words through phonics. These are useful examples of the early years foundation stage in practice: building language and early reading knowledge as foundations for later learning.
Read Write Inc. supports early reading across EYFS, alongside regular stories. For parents, that means a named phonics approach sits beside listening to books and joining in with spoken language.
Outdoor learning extends to local woodland, which nursery children visit often. Waterproofs and wellies stay on their school pegs, keeping the necessary clothing ready for those outings. Teaching knowledge. In October and November 2023, some staff lacked confidence in their knowledge of certain early years learning areas, limiting opportunities to check children’s recall. This is a material qualification to the positive curriculum picture.
Before starting, children and parents are invited to visit together and receive introductory information. That gives families an opportunity to become familiar with the setting before the first session. Nursery picnics also provided occasions for parents to join school life in October and November 2023, although some families wanted more communication at that time.
For children with SEND, the school aims to respond promptly to emerging difficulties and listen to parental concerns. The SENCO coordinates provision, and parents are informed when additional educational support is introduced. The Jungle is a pastoral support space serving KS1 and EYFS, giving younger children a named place within the school’s support arrangements.
Food brought onto the premises must exclude nuts and products containing them. Check snack labels carefully: this restriction matters for children with severe allergies.
Nursery attendance neither guarantees a Reception place nor confers priority under the 2027-28 admission arrangements. A separate application is required. Families applying for September 2027 must use Bradford’s online Common Application Form at www.bradford.gov.uk/admissions by 15th January.
Treat that application as a separate decision from choosing nursery. Familiarity with Iqra does not replace the application or change the allocation criteria. Parents are invited to Nursery and Reception open days, where they can discuss their child’s needs with teaching staff and the SENDCO.
Morning nursery runs from 8.45am to 11.45am; afternoon nursery runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Nursery gates open at 8:40am. These session boundaries are the useful starting point for planning work and other childcare.
Contact the school office on 01274 773 350 or office@ia.iexel.org.uk for nursery enquiries. Independence expectations. Children should be fully toilet trained and able to use cutlery and dress themselves. Consider those expectations alongside your child’s support needs before joining.
Bring waterproof clothing and wellies to remain at school, and label clothing clearly. Drummond Road can be busy, so allow time to park farther away and complete the journey on foot.
Children usually join when they are three years old.
