Nursery at St Francis Catholic Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Counting small collections, combining shapes and learning to make choices give this nursery review its clearest picture of childhood learning. The nursery belongs to St Francis Catholic Primary School on Myers Lane in Bradford, within a Catholic school whose stated aim is education shaped by its faith. For families, that religious character is part of the choice alongside the practical nursery day.
Nursery starts at 8.30am, with lunch at 11.30am and the nursery day ending at 3.30pm. Those nursery-specific times matter when organising work and collection: they differ from the start and finish for older children.
Maths in the early years foundation stage (EYFS) combines teaching together, activities guided by adults and activities children initiate themselves. In the nursery-stage curriculum, children practise counting beyond five, pairing each object with a number word and understanding that the final number counted represents the collection's total. They also learn to recognise a group of up to three objects instantly. This connects spoken counting with an understanding of quantity.
Shape and measurement bring practical exploration into the learning. Children combine shapes, compare objects by their weight or size, and use words describing position. Repeating patterns involve copying, extending and spotting mistakes. Adding objects to a group and removing them introduces the meaning of more and less through actions, giving families a clear sense of how early mathematical ideas take shape.
In December 2024, adults in early years offered children choices that supported their confidence and communication. Children also sustained their attention across different learning areas. These findings give a specific picture of participation, rather than a separate nursery inspection grade.
The safeguarding team includes the EYFS lead, SEND coordinator and family support worker as deputy safeguarding leads. Families can contact the team through the school office, providing a route for raising concerns. For enquiries about special educational needs and disabilities, the contact address is senco@fra.bcwcat.co.uk.
Physical access deserves individual consideration. During the 2022–2025 accessibility planning period, the Foundation Stage unit had an accessible toilet; the wider site included steps, ramps and a lift. Families with mobility needs should consider the routes their child would use, as well as facilities within the unit.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and brings no attendance-based priority under the 2027–2028 arrangements. Families must make a separate application to their home local authority. Familiarity with the school does not replace that application.
For September 2027 entry, the application deadline is 15 January 2027. Families seeking consideration within a specific category, such as Catholic applicants, must also return the Supplementary Information Form and supporting evidence to the school by that date. Leaving out that form can affect the category used to assess the application.
Use office@fra.bcwcat.co.uk or telephone 01274 638520 for nursery enquiries. Collection should be prompt. If a delay occurs, contact the office; if someone different will collect your child, give the office their details that morning. These arrangements make the office the practical contact for changes to the end of the nursery day.
The nursery day starts at 8.30am and ends at 3.30pm. Lunch is at 11.30am.
