Precious People is the nursery class at St Joseph & St Theresa, giving its youngest children a place within a Catholic primary school in Chasetown. The provision is a pre-school nursery within a school with one class per year group. Its character is explicitly faith-based: the school aims to help children develop through Gospel values and the Catholic Schools Pupil Profile.
Outdoor activity and books are part of the daily pattern. Children have opportunities to learn outdoors and be physically active each day, while reading includes both time with books and listening to adults read. This gives families two concrete threads to the day: movement and stories.
The nursery also has access to specialist PE teaching and Forest School provision. These bring physical activity and learning outdoors into the teaching structure, alongside the classroom experience. Precious People has its own nursery staff team within the wider school.
Google Classroom connects learning at nursery with home. Early Years staff use it to share children's achievements, and parents can contribute experiences and successes from outside school. That makes communication a two-way exchange, with home experiences contributing to the picture of each child. Arbor carries school messages and reminders and provides appointment booking for parent meetings.
At snack time, children are encouraged to taste different fruits. The school also promotes healthy eating, making food part of everyday conversation as well as a care routine.
For families concerned about special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), there is an Early Years SENCO as well as the school SENCO. Parents can raise concerns with their child's teacher or arrange a discussion through the office. The school aims to identify additional needs early in its Early Years setting and involves outside professionals when needed.
Individual Education Plan targets are developed with parents and reviewed together. Support discussions take place termly, giving families recurring opportunities to consider progress and agree next steps. The school site is on a single level, with wheelchair access and ramps at specified fire exits. These are practical features for children with mobility needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer admissions priority. Families must make a separate application, and children are considered against the same criteria whether or not they attend the nursery.
For September 2027 entry, apply through the local authority where you live, naming St Joseph & St Theresa. The deadline is 15th January 2027. A Supplementary Information Form must also reach the school by that date. Families therefore have two parts to complete.
Class changes have a separate preparation process: wherever possible, children meet their next teacher and spend time in the new classroom. Children who may find the change difficult can have social stories and a transition booklet containing photographs of staff and the classroom to share at home. Familiarisation supports the change; it does not alter admissions decisions.
