Christian values give St Luke's nursery its setting: the school places love, kindness, friendship and compassion at the centre of its intended daily life. This is the school's own nursery on Morley Street in Bury, within a primary school with two classes in each year group. The school describes its nursery as full time.
Families of any faith, and families with none, are welcome. For parents, that means considering both the Christian character and the school's inclusive aims. Around the school, displays explore emotions, peace and friendship, giving those themes a visible presence.
Early learning has a clear educational purpose here. At the March 2023 inspection, the nursery curriculum was found to teach the foundations children need for their later learning. The emphasis was on establishing those foundations early, giving children something secure to build on as their education continues.
Reading is part of that picture. In March 2023, children in the early years received structured phonics teaching, supported by trained staff, books suited to their learning and extra teaching strategies for children who needed help with reading. This connects learning about sounds with books children can tackle at an appropriate level.
School life also brings shared events. During summer 2026, the early years had a sports day scheduled for 6 July and a visit to St Peter's Church scheduled for 17 July. These were opportunities beyond classroom learning in that term's programme.
A nursery teacher and an Early Years Lead formed part of the teaching structure in 2025–2026. Alongside them, the school had a SENDCo and a Parent Support/SEND Advisor. Those distinct roles give families identifiable points of contact for teaching, additional needs and support with school life.
Respect for difference begins early. In March 2023, appreciation of diversity extended through the early years. Identification of additional needs also began early in children's education, helping support start near the beginning of their learning.
Parent contact included nursery meetings scheduled for 4 June 2026. School SEND drop-in sessions were also scheduled for 16 and 17 June that year, providing another opportunity for families to discuss additional needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two separate decisions.
Familiarity with the school can matter to a child, but it must not be treated as an admissions entitlement. Keep the application process distinct from the child's experience of nursery life.
Visits can be arranged through the school office by appointment. This gives parents a direct opportunity to consider the nursery within its primary-school setting before making their choice.
