Provision for two-year-olds gives Pathfinder an early starting point within a primary school setting. Nursery classes sit alongside that younger provision, making this a school-based choice for families considering their child’s first steps in education.
The Church of England school describes a Christian ethos centred on respect, wisdom and perseverance. Its stated emphasis is on recognising progress, supporting one another and helping children make thoughtful choices. Those aims provide context for the nursery’s place within the wider school community.
The important qualification is educational: at the Ofsted inspection on 11 and 12 June 2024, early years provision was judged Requires improvement. That judgement covers the school’s early years, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
The central issue is how learning connects over time. In June 2024, the early years curriculum did not make the progression of knowledge sufficiently clear. Staff consequently struggled to design and guide activities that matched children’s needs. For parents, the concern is whether one learning experience prepares a child for the next, rather than simply keeping them occupied.
Reading provides a more specific strand. Early years staff had undertaken training to teach phonics. Across early years and Key Stage 1, teaching still needed greater accuracy in some instances. The school recognised the need for further staff guidance and training. This makes the consistency of teaching an important consideration alongside the activities themselves.
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities were included in the June 2024 curriculum concerns. The difficulty in planning learning to match individual needs affected them too. Families seeking additional support should therefore treat the early years judgement as relevant to their child’s learning, rather than assume that the wider school’s provision describes the nursery experience.
Emotional development also needed attention. In June 2024, children sometimes struggled to develop control over their emotions and feelings. This matters in everyday nursery life: learning and emotional support need to work together. The improvement action called for clearer learning progression and better guidance for staff, both relevant to meeting children’s needs. At the June 2024 inspection, these weaknesses left children less prepared for key stage 1 than they should have been.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Choosing the nursery and obtaining a school place are separate decisions.
Educational continuity also deserves attention. The June 2024 concerns included the connection between nursery learning and the next stage. Familiarity with a school setting should therefore be considered separately from both admissions and the way learning develops.

Parking is just off the school site; disabled parking is in the staff car park. That distinction is useful when planning a visit with a young child.
