Stories, clear routines and growing independence characterised Bursar’s early years experience in October 2023. Children can start from age 3 at the academy on Clee Road in Cleethorpes. This is nursery provision within a primary school, so the focus here is the beginning of school life rather than a separate childcare setting.
In October 2023, children across the early years had adjusted well to school life and could use their learning environment independently. Those are useful foundations for a young child: becoming comfortable with routines and making choices are part of the day alongside learning.
Reading aloud is a concrete part of the early years experience. In October 2023, children enjoyed adults sharing books with them from the start of their time in early years. For families, that gives a recognisable picture of learning through listening to stories, rather than treating reading only as something children will tackle later.
In October 2023, children across early years followed clear routines and used their learning environment independently. For families, that finding suggests children were learning how to participate in school life alongside their other learning.
Curriculum planning. The October 2023 inspection identified a specific weakness in Nursery: the knowledge children should acquire before leaving had not been organised into a clear sequence. Staff needed more precise expectations about the learning to cover and its timing. This is a material consideration for families weighing the day’s activities against preparation for the next stage.
By October 2023, early years parents spoke very positively about the support their children received. Children’s adjustment to school routines provides a practical example of that experience, although this finding describes the early years together rather than Nursery alone.
An EYFS lead formed part of the teaching team in September 2025, giving early years a designated leadership role.
For school meals, the academy uses ParentPay for ordering. Orders close at midnight on Sunday, two weeks before the week the meals are needed. That advance deadline matters to household planning: meal choices require attention well before the relevant school week.
Attending Bursar’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Familiarity with the school must not be treated as an allocation decision.
Preparation for that move was also part of the Nursery curriculum concern in October 2023. The required improvement was to clarify what children should learn before leaving Nursery so that their learning prepares them for Reception.
Nursery children finish at 3.05pm. The academy site opens to families at 8.40am, with teachers on duty, and building doors open at 8.45am. These are school access arrangements; the nursery collection time is the practical distinction for families planning the afternoon.
