Schools in Consett

Once home to one of the largest steelworks in Britain, Consett rebuilt itself after the furnaces closed in 1980 and now serves as the commercial centre of north-west County Durham, with a population of around 25,000.

Shotley Bridge, a village of Georgian character along the Derwent valley, is widely regarded as one of the area's most school-competitive postcodes for primary places; Consett itself draws families competing for its central school catchments. Beechdale and Ebchester extend the residential spread eastward. Regular bus services connect the town to Durham city and Newcastle upon Tyne, around fourteen miles to the north-east.
