Once dubbed Little Scotland for the wave of Scottish steelworkers who settled its streets from the 1930s, Corby is a North Northamptonshire town of around 68,000 in the middle of a sustained chapter of civic regeneration. The Corby Cube, opened in 2010, anchors the town centre with a 450-seat theatre and library.
Cottingham and Gretton, rural parishes just beyond the town boundary, draw families who prize quieter streets and are among the most school-competitive pockets in this part of Northamptonshire. Weldon, Lloyds, and Kingswood form the residential spread to the south and east, built largely since the steelworks closed. Corby railway station reopened in 2009. That reopening placed Kettering sixteen minutes south on the Midland Main Line, reconnecting the town after decades of rail isolation.
