Nursery at Henry Green Primary School

Traditional tales, superheroes and growing plants give Diamond Class its nursery identity at Henry Green Primary School. This is the school's own early years provision on Green Lane in Dagenham, with a morning or afternoon pattern rather than a full day. The September 2026 intake was for children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023.
For families, the practical distinction is clear: children attend a short session across the school week. This is a term-time nursery, so the pattern needs to fit alongside the family's arrangements for the rest of the day and school holidays.
The nursery's topic sequence starts with All about me, followed by Celebrations in our community. Spring brings Traditional tales and Superheroes; summer moves to How plants grow, then Moving on and journeys. Those themes give parents concrete starting points for talking with children about their learning, from familiar experiences to stories and the natural world.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning includes building an understanding of numbers and beginning to connect sounds with words. Ofsted's inspection on 30 November and 1 December 2021 described early years children using objects to practise addition and learning vocabulary for comparing quantities and describing a total. The objects make an abstract idea tangible.
At that time, teaching also had term-by-term expectations for the sounds and words children would recognise and understand. However, the same inspection identified inconsistent organisation of extra reading help, which slowed some pupils' progress towards their peers. That concern matters alongside the planned teaching: a child who struggles needs support that follows through.
Parents can use the nursery information contact form to request a call back from the EYFS team. That provides a direct route for a conversation about starting nursery.
The school's SEND home-learning resources also include practical sequencing activities for washing hands, cleaning teeth and washing hair. These are resources for families, rather than a description of the nursery timetable. Their focus is concrete: breaking familiar care tasks into an order children can practise.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Every child needs a separate application through Barking and Dagenham's school admissions process; the local authority allocates places, rather than the school choosing which nursery children continue.
For September 2026 Reception entry, the application window ran from 1 November 2025 to 15 January 2026. Those dates are past. Families applying for a later intake should follow the borough's normal application route and deadline for that intake. Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as two separate decisions.
The September 2026 nursery offer comprised government-funded provision of 15 hours each week during term time. Sessions ran Monday to Friday, either 8:30 to 11:30am or 12:20 to 3:20pm. Full-day attendance is excluded from that offer, so it does not cover a working day.
Applications go directly to the school through its online nursery form or a paper form collected from the office. Paper forms can be handed back or emailed to office@henrygreen.org.uk, with place confirmation sent by email. Families can also contact the school to arrange a nursery visit.
