A market town of around 20,000 in the Swale district of north Kent, Faversham has been a working settlement since before the Roman occupation and appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. The Shepherd Neame Brewery, established in 1698, anchors the compact town centre beside Faversham Creek, where the town once traded as a busy inland port.
