Songs, rhymes and listening give Glynwood’s nursery its clearest educational character. These are the activities children use to develop early listening skills, putting spoken language before formal reading. The provision belongs to Glynwood Community Primary School on Glynwood Gardens in Gateshead and takes children aged three.
Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good following its inspection on 12 and 13 November 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery inspection outcome.
The timetable gives families distinct morning and afternoon options. A morning session runs from 8:45am until 11:45am, while the afternoon starts at 12:15pm and finishes at 3:15pm. The 30 hours Nursery pattern runs from 8:45am to 3:00pm. Its collection time therefore differs from the afternoon session’s, a practical detail for anyone organising the journey home.
Learning has a planned sequence. In November 2024, the early years curriculum set out the knowledge children should develop over time. For parents, that means the nursery’s songs and rhymes sit within planned learning rather than being simply entertainment. Listening is an explicit focus. Those familiar activities give young children a way to practise paying attention to language through sound and repetition.
The nursery team includes teachers and teaching assistants. This gives families both teaching and support roles within the provision.
For questions about special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the school provides a direct telephone contact: 0191 433 4117. Its SEND page also brings together the SEN report, an Accessibility Plan for 2024–26 and policies covering medication and intimate care. These are useful starting points for a conversation about an individual child’s care needs.
Gateshead Local Offer adds information about transport, social care, health and education support for children with SEND and their families. It gives parents a route to wider services alongside their contact with the school.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the deadline for their child’s entry year.
Glynwood’s Reception admissions page directs parents to Gateshead Council’s online application route. For the 2026 entry cycle, applications closed on 15 January 2026, with offers sent on 16 April 2026. Both dates are past. Parents planning a later start should use the council’s timetable for the relevant entry year and treat the Reception application as a separate task from securing nursery attendance.
For September 2027 nursery entry, the Application Forms page provides an online form for children born between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024. The specified cohort turns three before that intake begins.
School visits can be arranged by making an appointment through the main office. This offers families a direct way to discuss the provision before choosing it. General enquiries can also go to glynwoodcommunityprimaryschool@gateshead.gov.uk.
