An affluent Edwardian settlement in the Buckinghamshire Chilterns, Gerrards Cross grew substantially after the railway opened the town to London-bound professionals in the early twentieth century. The Iron Age encampment at Bulstrode Park confirms habitation stretching back some two millennia. Chalfont St Peter, immediately to the north, and Gerrards Cross itself form a school-competitive corner of south Buckinghamshire that consistently draws families competing for primary places. Around 8,400 people live in the civil parish today. Gerrards Cross station connects to London Marylebone on the Chiltern Main Line in around 25 minutes.
