Nursery at Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy

Conversation and discovery shape the nursery’s stated approach at Ormiston Cliff Park Primary Academy. Children join from the term following their third birthday, with a choice of morning, afternoon or all-day attendance. This is the academy’s own nursery in Gorleston-on-Sea, giving families a school-based option for the years before Reception.
Group size needs careful attention. Session options carry a maximum of 26 children, while the staffing arrangement describes at least three adults supporting up to 29 children. These are different limits; families should distinguish the session capacity from the staffing description when considering a place.
Curiosity, talking together and cooperation are the nursery’s priorities. Its facilities are described as new, and the team aims to encourage children to investigate and discover. The emphasis on conversation gives parents a useful sense of the intended learning experience: children exchanging ideas as well as exploring for themselves.
Learning sits within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This framework covers physical development, communication, and children’s personal and social development alongside early literacy, mathematics, creative expression and understanding their surroundings. For parents, that means early education encompasses relationships and movement as well as the beginnings of reading and number work.
The school’s early years provision received a Good judgement at the Ofsted inspection on 23 and 24 March 2022. At that time, adults encouraged an interest in books and children developed early phonics knowledge. However, the inspection identified uneven teaching in some early years learning areas and required further staff training. That historical judgement concerns the school’s early years provision, rather than a separate inspection of today’s nursery.
An EYFS lead oversees the provision. Daily leadership rests with a Level 6 EYFS assistant, supported by two teaching assistants. This separates oversight from the everyday running of sessions and identifies the qualification held by the person leading the nursery day.
Settling into nursery is an explicit priority: the team aims to make the change reassuring for children and parents. Nursery Stay and Play events were scheduled for 9 and 10 June 2026, offering a concrete example of opportunities for families to engage with the setting.
For concerns about progress, the academy’s first contact is the child’s class teacher, with referral to colleagues where needed. Parents can contact the SEND coordinator through the school office. This gives families a clear starting point for discussing additional needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Norfolk County Council, which allocates school places. For September 2027 entry, the application round closes in January 2027. Keep that application separate from nursery arrangements.
The early years team works with families on the move from home or nursery into school. That transition support concerns children’s adjustment; it does not secure admission.
Morning sessions run from 8:30am to 11:30am, afternoons from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, and all-day attendance from 8:30am to 3:00pm. The shorter options allow families to choose either side of midday, while the all-day option spans both.
Enquiries and nursery visits go through the school office on 01493 661523. Families can also use the academy’s general enquiry form. For childcare funding applications and account access, the nursery directs parents to HMRC. Ask the school for current charges before agreeing attendance.
