Books from the start, conversation at story time and a bug hotel to explore give Rollesby's early years provision its character. The nursery belongs to Rollesby Primary School on Main Road and includes two-year-olds. For families, this is an introduction to learning within a primary school, with exploration and early communication both part of the picture.
Exploration and talk sit alongside one another. In March 2024, children in early years enjoyed the activities and learning areas prepared for them, including the bug hotel. That physical feature gives their exploration a concrete focus, rather than leaving learning about the world entirely to books.
Story time has a clear purpose. Books are introduced in Nursery, and early years children take part in thoughtful discussions about stories. In March 2024, those conversations were helping children develop communication that prepares them for reading. Listening and joining in matter here.
Sharing and waiting for a turn are also taught from Nursery. These are practical foundations for spending a session with other children: learning involves how to participate together as well as what to explore. Morning and afternoon sessions give families two distinct parts of the day to consider.
Social learning starts early. In March 2024, the emphasis from Nursery on sharing and turn-taking gave children guidance on the basics of positive behaviour. These small habits matter when children are learning to use activities alongside their peers.
Food is prepared through the federation's own catering operation, with meals cooked daily and ingredients supplied by local fruit and vegetable suppliers and butchers. Nursery meals at Rollesby are chargeable. Packed lunches are an alternative; containers should carry the child's name, and nut products must stay out of lunchboxes. This makes lunch planning part of preparing for a session.
For families seeking advice about special educational needs and disabilities, Norfolk SEND Partnership provides information and guidance to parents and carers. It offers a separate point of support for understanding a child's needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal local authority process and meet the deadline for their intake. Norfolk County Council is the admissions route.
Towards the close of the summer term, new intake children can spend two days at the school. They meet teachers, explore the school and tackle preparatory challenges. This gives children time to become familiar with their next stage; it is a transition opportunity, separate from the allocation of places.
The morning session runs from 8:45am to 11:45am; the afternoon runs from 12:15pm to 3:35pm. A separately charged lunchtime period sits between them, from 11:45am to 12:15pm, and excludes the meal itself. Families therefore need to distinguish lunchtime attendance from ordering food.
There are separate nursery waiting lists for two-year-olds and children seeking funded places. Funded starts are usually in September, with January or April entry possible if spaces remain. Two-year-olds can begin at other points in the year when a place becomes free.
For funding enquiries and current additional-session charges, contact the school office on 01493 740270.
