Nursery at Wroughton Infant Academy

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Indoor and outdoor learning, early phonics and a choice of morning or afternoon sessions give Wroughton’s nursery its shape. It welcomes children aged 3 and 4 at Wroughton Infant Academy on Beccles Road in Gorleston. The school nursery opened in September 2022, placing these early years within an infant school setting.

The Nursery Day

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) combines learning to communicate, developing physical skills and managing feelings and relationships with early literacy, maths, creative expression and understanding the world. That gives the day a broader purpose than preparing children to read: learning to participate and express themselves matters too.

Activities alternate between individual work, small groups and the whole class. Learning takes place outside as well as inside, so the classroom is only part of the learning environment. The approach encourages children to investigate, try things out, persist when something proves difficult and develop ideas of their own. These are habits children can practise across different activities.

Read Write Inc provides the nursery’s phonics programme. Children’s progress is checked regularly, with teaching groups adjusted according to attainment. This brings structured early reading work alongside the exploratory elements of the EYFS. Adults also respond to children’s interests and individual needs, building learning over time rather than expecting everyone to develop at an identical rate.

Care and Support

The nursery team includes two qualified teachers and a specialist teaching assistant. For families, that identifies both teaching and support roles within the provision. Some children remain for lunch, giving the session arrangements an option that includes a meal.

A Nursery Stay and Play Taster Session took place on 9 July 2025. It offered an opportunity to become familiar with nursery before starting. Partnership with parents and carers is also one of the early-years guiding principles, linking children’s learning with the adults who know them at home.

For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), the school works with families, teaching staff and its SEND coordinator to identify barriers and organise support. Specialist advice may be sought from educational psychologists or speech and language therapists. This gives parents a role in planning support around their child.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application for the September after their child’s fourth birthday, including children already attending a school nursery. Norfolk County Council allocates places; online applications use Norfolk Education Online (NEO). For September 2027 entry, the closing date is 15 January 2027. Late applications receive lower priority than those submitted on time.

Transition activities are a separate matter. In June 2026, Reception Stay and Play events included a session with parents and another without them. These offered staged opportunities to experience the next setting; they did not replace the application process.

Practical Information

Morning and afternoon sessions are offered, with some children staying for lunch. This is a session-based provision, so families can consider which part of the day suits their child.

Nursery enquiries go through the school office. Contact 01493 806780 or enquiries@wroughtonacademies.org.uk. The Infant Academy’s address is Beccles Road, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, NR31 8AH. The school closes during school holidays, at weekends and on bank holidays, making its calendar relevant to family childcare planning.
