Nursery at Jerounds Primary Academy

Three-hour sessions and learning through play shape the nursery offer at Jerounds Primary Academy in Harlow. Provision from January 2026 has 26 places, with a morning session and an afternoon session. The nursery forms part of the school, giving families a school-based option for the years before Reception.
Children can begin in the term following their third birthday, subject to places, funding and the waiting list. The age range extends to the September before their fifth birthday. In October 2022, Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good. That judgement predates the nursery provision from January 2026.
Play is the starting point for learning. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum uses play experiences suited to children's development. The nursery aims to help children prepare for school through these play activities.
At the October 2022 inspection, children encountered books alongside songs and rhymes from the beginning of early years, giving them an early introduction to language through stories and music. This finding predates the nursery provision from January 2026.
Morning and afternoon sessions each last three hours. For a family using 15 funded hours, the attendance pattern is either mornings or afternoons, with parents able to express a preference. The school decides which session to offer after considering the circumstances. That makes the allocated pattern an important part of planning the child's day.
A home visit comes before the start date. This applies to new children joining at the beginning of term and those starting later, allowing staff to meet the child in familiar surroundings before nursery begins.
NET Academies Trust aims to remove barriers that prevent children with disabilities from participating. Its SEND arrangements place responsibility with teaching staff as well as the special educational needs coordinator (SENCo). Parents can discuss their child's needs with the teacher or SENCo, giving families a clear route into conversations about support.
Support is planned with parents and, where appropriate, outside professionals. Teaching staff work with the SENCo, learning support assistants and intervention leads to assess needs, plan action and review it. The Trust does not advocate assigning a named adult for individual support. Families should understand that team approach when considering how their child's needs will be met.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Jerounds. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process by the applicable deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and securing a school place as separate decisions.
Funded provision is organised around 15 or 30 hours. A 30-hour place depends on validation of the eligibility code. Session preference does not determine the offer, so families need to plan around the morning or afternoon place allocated.
For nursery enquiries, contact Jerounds on 01279 423485 or email office@jerounds.netacademies.net. Application forms come from the academy; proof of address and the child's birth certificate are required before taking up a place.
