Nursery at Kingsmoor Academy

Two session options shape Kingsmoor Academy’s nursery day: the 15-hour morning option runs from 8.50am to 11.50am, while the 30-hour full-day option runs from 8.50am to 2.50pm. This is the academy’s own provision on Ployters Road in Harlow, with France and Spain named in the nursery timetable. Families can plan around a late-morning or afternoon finish.
Early reading begins with listening closely to words. In April 2025, nursery children practised recognising an opening sound and matching it with a letter. That makes the first steps towards reading concrete: hearing a sound, recognising its written form and connecting the two.
Writing in the early years also starts from familiar sounds. In April 2025, children used their existing letter-sound knowledge to attempt spellings. Pictures supplied ideas, while boxes helped them position letters. These small supports helped children develop from individual words towards sentences, giving parents a useful picture of how early writing was taught.
Nature has supplied a different kind of activity. Nursery children have built a Bug Hotel for insects, a tangible project that connects making something with the living world. It is a specific example of children’s activity rather than a promise about a regular programme. Alongside the sound and letter work, it shows a nursery experience that has included practical construction as well as early literacy.
Parents have a direct route for discussing additional needs: start with the child’s class teacher, then contact the SENDCo if further help is needed. The SENDCo oversees special educational needs and disabilities across the academy. This gives families a clear sequence for raising concerns and discussing support.
Communication also includes SchoolComms, through which letters are sent home. For concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing, the academy has a designated safeguarding lead and a deputy. Both can be reached through the school telephone number, giving parents a defined contact route for welfare concerns.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the local authority, using the normal application route and meeting the deadline for their child’s intake. Nursery applications, by contrast, go directly to the academy. Treat these as two separate decisions and application processes, even though the provision belongs to the same school.
The 15-hour morning option runs from 8.50am until 11.50am; the 30-hour full-day option runs from 8.50am until 2.50pm. Families planning work or other childcare need to account for the finish time of their chosen option. Apply directly to the academy for a nursery place; the office can be reached on 01279 306136 or at KIN-admin@attrust.org.uk.
Uniform applies from nursery onwards. Children wear a white polo top with black or grey trousers or a pleated skirt, an academy jumper or cardigan, and suitable black school shoes. Most uniform can be bought from supermarkets, while Create Identitee Ltd supplies academy uniform. A limited stock of second-hand items is also held by the school, giving families another option when organising clothing.
