Morning or afternoon: Eldon Grove’s nursery day is built around two three-hour sessions, giving families a clear choice of attendance times. This is the school’s nursery provision in Hartlepool, for children aged three to four. For 2025-26, its maximum capacity was 39 full-time equivalent places; actual availability depends on staffing, children’s needs and the space available.
An indoor learning environment and outdoor space give children different settings for their activities. In March 2024, Ofsted found that early-years curriculum planning gave children a strong educational start, with adults using purposeful activities to extend what children knew, understood and could do. The emphasis is on learning through interaction with staff, rather than simply filling a session.
In March 2024, adults guided children towards activities that developed their learning, and the indoor and outdoor spaces prompted interest. For parents, those findings connect the physical space to the teaching: children’s exploration had support from adults.
A school-wide improvement action in March 2024 concerned making intended vocabulary and communication skills more consistently established across the curriculum. This was a wider school action, alongside positive findings about early-years planning and interaction.
Children experiencing difficulty with communication or participation were identified promptly in the early years in March 2024. Support was carefully organised, helping them become more confident and take part. This matters for a child who needs extra help joining activities or expressing themselves.
The school’s SEND arrangements involve the class teacher and special educational needs coordinator, with parents contributing to planning. A Pupil Support Plan can record the steps taken to meet an individual child’s needs; Speech and Language Therapy or Educational Psychology may also contribute to assessment and next steps. Parents of children with SEND receive progress meetings at least three times a year, either remotely or face to face. That gives families regular opportunities to discuss how support is working.
Nursery attendance gives neither priority nor a guaranteed Reception place at Eldon Grove. Families must make a separate Reception application through their local authority’s normal admissions process, using its application form or online portal and meeting the deadline for the relevant entry year. For September 2026 entry, the closing date was 15 January 2026.
Support with changing classes is a separate matter from allocating places. For children with SEND, relevant information is passed to the receiving teacher, who is invited to relevant meetings. This helps carry knowledge of a child’s needs into the next stage; it does not alter the admissions decision.

The universal entitlement is 15 nursery hours per week for three- and four-year-olds. An additional 15 funded hours depends on government eligibility criteria and space at the nursery; additional paid hours can also be requested. Where demand for extra hours exceeds capacity, allocation follows application order, whether those hours are funded or paid. Contact the school for current charges.
