At a Glance

Swimming, specialist music teaching and a 12-acre campus give Godstowe’s nursery a distinctly school-based character. Girls and boys attend the preschool provision in High Wycombe, with the school’s timetable listing ages two to four. Outdoor exploration sits alongside classroom learning, giving children opportunities to move, investigate and talk about their discoveries.

An autumn 2026 expansion is announced under the name The Nursery at Godstowe: provision for children aged nine months to four years, running for 50 weeks annually. This is an announced opening, rather than confirmation that the expanded nursery has begun operating. Its longer hours and younger intake represent a different practical proposition from the preschool timetable.

The Nursery Day

Choice has a clear place in the learning day. Children move between activities led by adults and activities they select themselves, practising both following a task and deciding what to explore. Planning uses topics to connect experiences, so learning about a theme can develop several skills together.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together language, relationships, movement, early reading and mathematics, creative expression and understanding the world. Here, practical experiences support those areas through exploration, sustained involvement and thinking through problems. Staff observe children’s progress and use assessment to inform learning. Parents can discuss that progress with the nursery team.

In January 2026, nursery children explained their choices of clothes for different weather conditions, developing reasoning as well as vocabulary. Early-years teaching supported good progress, with activities adjusted to children’s interests and growing independence. These findings concern the provision operating at that time, before the announced expansion.

Physical learning is concrete. Early-years children practised skipping and balancing on beams, while tweezers and number-tracing activities developed finer hand control. PE and swimming provided further opportunities to build coordination. The announced nursery programme includes specialist Music and PE, swimming and exploration across the school grounds, bringing these activities into its planned longer day.

Care and Support

The staff structure includes a Head of Nursery and Early Years, a Deputy Head of Nursery and a Nursery Assistant. In January 2026, early-years adults used their knowledge of individual children to offer reassurance and help them express feelings. Appropriate adult-to-child ratios were maintained, and early-years first-aid responsibilities included paediatric training.

Food and everyday supplies form part of the nursery charges. Meals are prepared on site; the inclusions cover snacks, breakfast, lunch and supper, alongside formula, milk, wipes, nappies and nappy cream. This makes the package broader than teaching and care alone. For children with additional needs, the admissions policy requires parents to share relevant information so that individual provision and possible adjustments can be considered.

Safeguarding concerns. The ISI inspection of 13 to 15 January 2026 found safeguarding failures affecting early-years children as well as the wider school. Staff understanding and reporting of low-level concerns were inadequate, required referrals about adult conduct were not consistently made, and recruitment checks and their records were incomplete. Leadership and safeguarding standards were unmet. Families should assess the action taken on these specific failures before accepting a place.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Confirm Reception entry arrangements directly with Admissions before making plans for the move.

Preparation for the move is more tangible than an admissions promise. Nursery planning is coordinated with Reception teachers, and an end-of-year transition record passes to the child’s next teacher. Early-years children also joined pre-prep assemblies and breaktimes in January 2026, helping them become familiar with the wider school routine.

Practical Information

The 2026–27 membership model offers an Extended Day from 7:30am to 6:30pm, with three-, four- or five-day patterns. School Day Membership runs Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 3:30pm. Both cover 50 weeks, and membership charges are paid monthly. Extra care around the School Day hours is subject to availability and booking terms.

The preschool timetable also lists a morning-only session, 8:15am to 11:45am. Confirm which booking model applies to the provision you are choosing. Ask the school for current charges. Families can register interest in the announced nursery and arrange a personal visit through its enquiry form. Nursery uniform has its own list, with clothing supplied through Direct Clothing or the on-site shop.
