Two three-hour sessions give Kingswood Parks nursery a clear daily shape: mornings begin at 8:30, while afternoons finish at 15:30. This is the school's own Foundation Stage nursery, known as FS1, on School Lane in Kingswood, Hull. Its place within the school brings shared approaches to learning, support and preparation for the next classroom.
Morning nursery runs from 8:30 to 11:30; the afternoon session starts at 12:30 and ends at 15:30. Those distinct blocks give families a concrete starting point for fitting nursery around their day.
Early writing begins with the physical skills behind it. Fine motor development and handwriting start in the Early Years, giving children practice in the movements they will need for writing. Across the school, Talk for Writing is a named teaching approach, with discussion and role play contributing to learning. Discussion and role play give children experiences and ideas to draw on in their writing.
Learning to live alongside others also starts in nursery. Children learn that their actions affect both themselves and other people. That makes respect a practical part of the day, linked to behaviour and other children's wellbeing.
Predictability has a visible place in the school's classrooms. Each has a visual timetable, and staff prepare children for changes to familiar routines. For a young child, knowing what comes next can make the day's sequence easier to understand.
Additional needs are supported through the school's SENCO and teaching team. Parents can discuss their child's needs with either the class teacher or SENCO; assessment and support planning involve families. This gives parents a route for raising concerns and contributing information about their child.
Children on the SEND register have review meetings each term, three times a year, to consider their Individual Education Plan and agree the next targets and support. School resources include communication devices and sensory tools, with equipment reviewed against individual needs. These are school support arrangements, so their relevance depends on the individual child.
A separate application. Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply again through Hull City Council's school admissions route for the relevant intake and meet that intake's deadline. The 2027–2028 admission arrangements give no Reception priority for nursery attendance. Choosing FS1 therefore remains a decision about nursery itself, rather than a way to secure the next place.
Preparation for a new class is a separate matter. Annual transition days let children become familiar with their next classroom, staff and routines before the summer holiday. Staff also exchange information about provision and support. Some children with SEN receive extra preparation through transition books, visual aids or additional visits. These arrangements help with familiarity; they do not change admission rights.
The two nursery sessions are AM, 8:30–11:30, and PM, 12:30–15:30. Nursery admission is handled by the school's Local Governing Body, separately from the council-coordinated Reception process.
